Standards

NEW YORK STATE ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS STANDARDS

Standard 1: As listeners and readers, students will collect data, facts, and 
ideas, discover relationships, concepts, and generalizations; and use 
knowledge generated from oral, written, and electronically produced texts. As 
speakers and writers, they will use oral and written language to acquire, 
interpret, apply, and transmit information.

Key Idea 1: Listening & Reading to acquire information and understanding 
involves collecting data, facts, and ideas; discovering relationships, 
concepts, and generalizations; and using knowledge from oral, written, and 
electronic sources.

Key Idea 2: Speaking & Writing to acquire and transmit information requires 
asking probing and clarifying questions, interpreting information in one�s 
own words, applying information from one context to another, and presenting 
the information and interpretation clearly, concisely, and comprehensibly.


NEW YORK STATE SOCIAL STUDIES STANDARDS

Standard 2: World History - use a variety of intellectual skills to 
demonstrate their understanding of major ideas, eras, themes, developments, 
and turning points in world history and examine the broad sweep of history 
from a variety of perspectives.

Key Idea 1: The study of world history requires an understanding of world 
cultures and civilizations, including an analysis of important ideas, social 
and cultural values, beliefs, and traditions. This study also examines the 
human condition and the connections and interactions of people across time 
and space and the ways different people view the same event or issue from a 
variety of perspectives.

Key Idea 3: Study of the major social, political, cultural, and religious 
developments in world history involves learning about the important roles and 
contributions of individuals and groups.

Key Idea 4: The skills of historical analysis include the ability to 
investigate differing and competing interpretations of the theories of 
history, hypothesize about why interpretations change over time, explain the 
importance of historical evidence, and understand the concepts of change and 
continuity over time.

NEW YORK STATE TECHNOLOGY STANDARDS

Standard 2: Information Systems - Students will use mathematical analysis, 
scientific inquiry, and engineering design, as appropriate, to pose 
questions, seek answers and develop solutions.

Key Idea: Information technology is used to retrieve, process, and 
communicate information and as a tool to enhance learning.

Standard 5:  Technology Education - Students will apply technological 
knowledge and skills to design, construct, use, and evaluate products and 
systems to satisfy human and environmental needs.

Key Idea 1: Computers, as tools for design, modeling, information processing, 
communication, and system control, have greatly increased human productivity 
and knowledge.
