JCC 1530 --
The course syllabus has already been sent out to you via e-mail, and in
class -- but another copy is posted on the JCC Handouts page.
Also, copies of most of the stories you are required to print out and read
(and take notes on before and during class) are also on the handouts page.
Make sure you keep track of the reading/assignment schedule on the syllabus.
We are going to do mostly online/printed handouts of essays this year instead
of buying a book you will only use for one semester for $65 and then may not
be able to use for future classes or sell it back. We only need the essays,
and those will be provided. JCC creates your final exam for this course
(given in December or January) and it incorporates specific essays (which I
haven't been given the titles of yet).
We will read ALL different types of literature this year and discuss them
all. We will write about them all. We will have presentations, debates,
and more creative pieces as well. If you do the work, we will have a lot of
fun. If you don't do the work -- you will fail and not earn the credits for
the semester and bump back to En12. If you earn a low enough grade in the JCC
course, you may not be able to pass En12 once the averages are done and you
will not graduate on time. DO THE WORK!
We will start the year working on career writing. Here we will learn about
applications, resumes, cover letters and interviews. I know most of you are
applying to colleges soon, so that is why we are starting our year with this
unit. The packet (that you will receive in class) is posted on the JCC
Handouts page of this site.
The order for the non-fiction book we will read is due on Monday, 9/14 -- a
total of $14.70/person is due then. The fiction piece will be ordered at a
later date -- price to be determined then.
