Daily Homework Assignments will vary according to our studies. As the year
progresses, certain assignments will become typical on certain evenings. For
example; Vocabulary definitions and written sentences may become routine on
Monday nights and studying for a Spelling Test every other Friday may be the
norm, but it won't be "written in stone". Assignments may need to be given
and adjusted according to in-class accomplishments. Homework will be used to
further practice skills and research topics introduced in class. It will
become imperative that homework be completed in order for students to be
adequately prepared to participate in the following day's lessons.
Please refer to our Purple Planner Assignment Book/ Planner for each
evening's homework requirements. This book will need to be signed by a
parent each day. There is also a very useful Message Box for communication
purposes. Any comments, questions, or verifications can be addressed here as
students will be required to show me their Purple Planner each morning. It
is the student's responsibility to fill out and appropriately maintain this
extremely important ledger. Test dates and long-term assignments deadlines
will be copied down in this book, too (separate information sheets will be
sent home as well). Homework is rarely given on weekends unless it's to
continue working on a long-term project or make-up missed work.
The Words of Wisdom (W.O.W.)Journal is a three-piece assignment.
1) Each afternoon students copy down from the board; a famous quotation,
saying, proverb, or other wise words.
2) They then make a connection between the Words of Wisdom to something in
our day's studies.
3) The students need to write down at least three of the most important
things we learned in school that day. In school today, I learned...
This journal should be brought home and completed each evening and then
returned to school each and every day. It's OK to use pen or pencil; script
or print in their journal. Journals will be collected and reviewed each Day
A. We've been working on our cursive with workpages and all other homework
and final copy writing assignments should be done in cursive and pencil.
New York State ELA Reading/Writing Tests will be administered the
in April. Keep reading carefully and using your test taking
skills to best answer multiple choice questions. On writing assignments, do
what the questions and bullets ask you to do. Make sure your answers are
complete and well written. Proofread your responses before you consider your
tests to be completely finished.
