A sample oncall schedule
we have had good success with the assignment of:
3 interns to MICU for one calendar month - they each rotate 7-10 days of
nightcall while the other two work days.
shifts are 9am to 9pm(days) and 9pm-9am(nights).
and 2 residents to MICU for 4 weeks - one works days and one nights. (9-
9) On Saturday, a third (different/float) resident is assigned to cover 24
hours thus allowing a 24 hour period free from duty for both the residents.
Rounds occur twice a day - at 8 AM and in late afternoon. Night team
presents/discusses their patients first, and leave after the 24 hour (plus 3
for education and transfer of information) i.e. don't stay for the entire
rounds if it runs over.
This is in compliance with 405 regs for NY and ACGME, and except for
Saturday resident allows for continuity.
