May Birthdays

We will celebrate April birthdays on

Friday, April 20th
.

In an effort to promote health and wellness, the school will have a NON-FOOD BIRTHDAY TREAT POLICY: Each teacher has a special way of making the birthday child feel special in the classroom. When your child celebrates her/his birthday, she/he may dress up in appropriate attire. Children with summer birthdays are invited to dress up on their half birthday. In addition, birthdays are announced on the P.A. each morning. **Food and/or party treats of any type are not allowed, however a single non-edible item (example, pencils, donation of a book to school library) is allowed but is optional. Suggestions will be communicated by each classroom teacher.

CLASSROOM CELEBRATIONS/PARTIES

:

The classroom teacher decides how they would like each event to be celebrated.

***In sixth grade, we will have one celebration day each month for all students celebrating a birthday/half-birthday.  Parents will be notified of the date by the Room Parent. They may, separately or as a group, decide on a special snack to send in for the celebration.  Please select a snack from the approved snack list (see below) and notify Mrs. Lathrop by email.  Pizza is also an acceptable snack (and a favorite of sixth graders).  If parents would like to chip in, they could, as a group, decide to provide breakfast or lunch pizza as the celebration treat.

Below is information that was included in the September newsletter:

The link between good health and academic success is strong. Studies consistently show that issues like obesity, physical inactivity, and chronic illness can affect students’ ability to pay attention in class and can lead to poor school performance. According to the National Association of State Boards of Education, “Health and success in school are interrelated. Schools cannot achieve their primary mission of education if students and staff are not healthy and fit physically, mentally, and socially. ” Our response to the research is to be proactive, to help our students to succeed and learn to lead a healthy lifestyle. With this in mind, we at St. Lawrence School are adopting a new
