Our sixth grade assistant, Jean Rossignolo ("Mrs. R")--has been out of school since her 89 year old father suffered a stroke several weeks ago. She was with him when he died on Friday. The funeral Mass will be Monday (tomorrow) at 10 am at St. Lawrence. When we spoke on Friday, I told her I wanted to bring the 6th grade class. She was hoping we could attend, but knew it was short notice.
Since the class attended Mrs. Ryan's mother's funeral, students will know what to expect. Please email me, call school, send a note, or encourage students to tell me Monday if you do NOT want your child to attend the funeral mass. I will speak with the class on Monday morning. Any student who is not comfortable attending, will be able to remain at school.
Cherish the time you get to spend with your family. Happy Mothers' Day to all.
GUM
Before spring break, 5 students were chewing gum in just prior to dismissal. The entire class was reminded that there is NO gum in school or on the buses. If students choose to chew gum, it will result in an N on their report card. Please discuss your expectations with your child. There will be no more warnings. If students choose to chew gum, they are also choosing the consequences.
LAPTOPS
Dear Parents,
Several of our students will have the opportunity to use laptops regularly in middle school. During the rest of the school year, I encourage the sixth graders to experiment with using a laptop in school. Sixth graders have done this in the past. Some find they prefer using a pen and paper for most assignments. Other students appreciate the ease of editing a rough draft done on the computer.
Students may use their laptops for word processing only. Laptops will not have internet access. Computers in the classroom and in the learning center will continue to be used for research and online activities.
A few guidelines:
Label everything – the case, the laptop, the mouse, your thumbdrive, etc.
Laptops are to be used by their owner only. Other students should not need to use your laptop for any reason.
Laptops are not to be used for games before, during, or after school, including lunchtimes. They are for word processing only.
Laptops may travel back and forth to school with your student OR they may be stored overnight in the Learning Center which is locked and not used for Religious Ed.
Please email me if you have any questions or concerns.
Mrs. Lyn Lathrop.
