New Healthy Snack Policy

At St. Lawrence, we are committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all of the children in our school. We value the rights of every student and attempt to offer reasonable accommodations for students with special needs.

Accordingly, please be advised that there are children in our school family identified with a life-threatening food allergy.

We are respectfully requesting alternative food choices for all
children rather than foods that contain peanuts or tree nuts (for example: almonds, brazil nuts, cashews, hazelnuts, pecans, pistachios, walnuts)
for snack.
Some chil
dren have severe reactions to certain foods, so I would also ask you to remind your children not to share their food with other children.

Please call the school's Health Office if you have any questions or concerns and thank you for your efforts to help us accommodate children with life threatening conditions.

According to FACTS (Food Allergies Coping, Teaching, Supporting: www.factsplace.com), the current health risks affecting children today include diabetes, obesity, and a rise in food allergies. To protect our children me must try to stick to healthy peanut/tree nut free snacks:

Snack time is a "working" time; a time to feed our brains while still
completing school work.  Perhaps a plactic zip-lock bag labeled "snack" will
help your child to select their healthy snack from their lunch box.
It is very important for your child to stay hydrated. WATER makes our
brain function and retain knowledge. Any other type of beverage will not go
directly to hydrate the brain, but will be directed by the brain to pass
through the digestive system first, taking much more time to reach the
brain than plain water. Please send your child to school with plenty of water
and healthy food.
