GUIDANCE FOR USE OF SCIENTIFIC CALCULATORS FOR GRADE 8 TESTING

Scientific calculators are to be used for Sessions 2 and 3 of the 2010 NYS
Math Test given in the spring (March).

It is essential that the scientific calculators include at least these
functions:

Standard four functions (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)

Change sign (+/-)
Parentheses
Square root
Symbolic Pi
Trignometric Functions (Sine, Cosine and Tangent)

Scientific calculators can contain additional functions. However, they
cannot include the following functions:

Any and all problem solving or programming capabilities
Rounding keys
Place values
Inequalities
The ability to communicate with other calculators

Graphing calculators will not be permitted. The use of operating manuals or
other information concerning the operation of calculators is not permitted.
