I am in my 38th year in education and have had the privilege of
working with students of all age levels, K - 12, in some way,shape
or form during this time. 37 of those years have been at Starpoint.
I have a Bachelor's Degree and a Master's Degree in
English/Education (grades 7 -12) and a Doctorate in Curriculum
Planning. In addition to being a certified teacher, I am also a
certified administrator. I truly enjoy my job and my position, but,
of course, it involves many challenges each day! I believe that I am
at my best working with teachers, support staff ,students and
parents, too! Presently, one of our biggest challenges is helping
students to meet the new academic "standards" developed by our state
Education Department. I am very much committed to elementary
education at this point in my career!
For the 2009 - 2010 School Year, building goals include the following:
1. Continue to work with the staff to analyze the NYS assessments,
pinpointing student weaknesses and modifing classroom instruction to further
strengthen the curriculum in these identified areas of weakness;
2. Continue to work with the staff and content/Grade level area specialists
with the implementation of the district's CDEP plan (guaranteed and viable
curriculum, use of research-based instructional strategies, and methods to
increase student motivation);
3. Assist with the field-testing, review, and ultimate recommendation of the
new Reading series/program for students in grades 3, 4 & 5;
4. Develop a 'Fitness/Wellness Room' in line with the mandate to provide
appropriate Physical Education instruction to students in grades 3, 4 & 5 for
120 minutes per week;
5. Continue to enhance staff development and maximize the use of the new
teacher resource room;
6. Create a delivery system that maximizes the use of the new computer labs.
