10/2 We have introduced and/or reviewed a new spelling rule. There are two
spellings for the /ch/ sound. If the letter before the /ch/ sound is a
vowel, the /ch/ sound is spelled -tch- (for example - catch). If the letter
before the /ch/ sound is a consonant, the /ch/ sound is spelled with -ch-
(for example - pinch).

We will continue to reinforce the these rules throughout each unit.

9/30 The students have learned the spelling rule - FLOSS. The rule is that
if a one syllable word with a short vowel sound ends in an l , s, or f --
then the letters f , l , or s are doubled.

9/20 We have introduced/reviewed blends. Two or three letters that are
blended together such as: bl, tr, fl.

9/13 We will begin our Fundations program by reviewing vowel and consonant
sounds. We have introduced/reviewed digraph sounds. Digraphs are two
letters
that make one sound - such as ch, sh, th, wh, and ck.

An interesting rule that the students were taught is that the spelling of
the /k/ sound is only spelled -ck- at the end of a word or end of a
syllable!

Stay tuned!
