Dear Parents/Guardians,
If your child sings in the chorus, plays an instrument, or enjoys dance or acting, you know that the arts are much more than just a fun “extra” activity. Participation in the arts opens our children’s minds and teaches them skills that will help them throughout their lives.
The First Nighters is a volunteer parent support group for the Performing Arts Programs in the Yorktown schools. We invite you to join us in helping the performing arts in our schools grow and thrive. Through family sponsorships/donations and refreshment sales over the years, we have been able to:
- Host an annual Performing Arts Recognition Dinner for juniors and seniors at Yorktown High School
- Present scholarship awards to outstanding graduating seniors in the Performing Arts
- Provide new seats and audio equipment for our new auditorium
- Support the YHS Dance Company with costume expenses
- Support the Musicals and Drama at YHS for additional props needed
- Host a reception for the community at the annual Faculty Music Recital
- Provide 3 Music Summer Camp Scholarships
- Co-host DVD sales of school productions with the Harrison Apar Field of Dreams Foundation.
We are looking for some parents to lend a bit of their time, energy and ideas to our volunteer group. If we all work together we can continue to have the Performing Arts flourish in our Yorktown schools!
