collaborative art activities.

How do I join Special Art?

If you have an interest in Special Art, you may sign up in regular art class. Students are admitted as
long as there is not a schedule conflict. Behavior, effort, and attitude are also considered, including
ability to work independently as well as in groups. A rotation schedule is created if the amount of
interested students exceeds Special Art openings.

Will I have art homework?

While art homework is rarely assigned (aside from extra credit or voluntary requests for materials),
students may take home artwork if we are ending a project and they are not finished. This is if they
feel they have the time at home to work on it, and they volunteer to do so.

What if I miss an art class? What if I am falling behind in an art lesson?

That is ok! Your classmates and I will re-introduce the lesson to you. Also, I would rather have you
work at your own pace and not feel rushed to finish assignments. If we need to move on, and you are
not finished, you are welcome to come to the artroom during recess or other free time. Also, see
Question #4 as an option.

What kind of projects will we do?

My goal with each grade level is to explore art, artists, and culture using a series of materials, each
which will be used at least once during the year. These materials include those used for: drawing,
painting, wood, wire, found objects, clay, papier mache, printmaking, collage, and textiles/weaving.

When will I use clay?

Every grade level will use clay this year. The clay program begins in the winter, running from late
Decemeber to March. There is also a pottery wheel, which is new this year. Fourth and fifth grade
students will have the opportunity to use the pottery wheel.

When is the art show and will I have work in it?

The art show is in early June. Every student has at least one piece in the art show.
The art show is on view during the day, for an entire day, and at night for parents.
If you do not see a piece of your work on view during the DAY of the art show, please notify the art
teacher ASAP so I can make sure to help you find your piece. A specific date will be posted for the art
show soon.
