            FOOD CHAINS/WEBS AND DIGESTION

                                    4-PAS/SAB
                     MAKE A FOOD CHAIN/WEB

     4pasfoodchain001.jpg      4pasfoodchain002.jpg
A food chain is a way to show food relationships between plants and animals
or how energy passes from producers to consumers.

     4pasfoodchain003.jpg      4pasfoodchain004.jpg
Every student scientists was either the sun, a plant, an animal, bacteria or a nutrient.

     4pasfoodchain005.jpg      4pasfoodchain006.jpg
They had to figure out where the chain starts and ends.

     4pasfoodchain007.jpg     4pasfoodchain008.jpg
They did it a few times until a food web was made!
A food web is the interrelationships between several food chains.

                                 Dissects an Owl Pellet

       4thoowlpellets001.jpg      4thoowlpellets002.jpg
To get the concept of a food chain, our student scientists
will dissect and investigate an owl pellet.

       4thoowlpellets004.jpg      4thoowlpellets005.jpg
They worked in pairs to separate the bones from the fur.

       4thoowlpellets006.jpg      4thoowlpellets007.jpg
They found a lot of bones and some skulls.

       4thoowlpellets008.jpg     4thoowlpellets009.jpg
As they found bones they cleaned them off and put them in a bag.

       4thoowlpellets010.jpg     4thoowlpellets011.jpg
Can you figure out what this owl ate?

      4thoowlp001.jpg      4thoowlpellets013.jpg
Once all the bones are separated they will glue them
on a piece of paper and figure out what their owl ate.

                          4thoowlp002.jpg
Mr. Thompson took the time to name a few of the bones!

                               4 - Wei & 4 - Pas/Sab
                                 Dissect Owl Pellets

   4weinowlpellets001.jpg   4weinowlpellets002.jpg
Mrs. Weiner's student scientists also worked in pairs to
                                             dissect their owl pellets.

   4weinowlpellets003.jpg   4weinowlpellets004.jpg
They worked very hard to find as many bones as the could.

   4weinowlpellets005.jpg    4weinowlpellets006.jpg
Some seperated the fur while their partner cleaned the bones.

   4weinowlpellets008.jpg    4weinowlpellets009.jpg
It is very interesting to see how many bones are in one pellet.

   4weinowlpellets010.jpg    4weinowlpellets011.jpg
It will take a couple of lab days to finish the job!

                     4weinowlpellets007.jpg
Some big bones have have been found.

  4pasowlpellets001.jpg      4pasowlpellets002.jpg
Mr. Pastore/ Mrs. Class starting gluing their bones on black paper.

  4pasowlpellets003.jpg      4pasowlpellets004.jpg
Now they can see the skeleton of the owl's prey!!

 4pasowlpellets005.jpg    4pasowlpellets006.jpg
So many bones, so little time!!
