The State of New York Department of Health requires that all students entering 7th grade must show proof of immunity to Hepatitis B. This is a series of three immunizations over a period of 6 months. Students must show proof of the first injection with a letter of intent by a Physician to complete the series to remain in school.
A physical exam with a recorded BMI(body mass index) is mandatory for all 7th graders in the State of New York.
This exam can be done the same year as the start of the new school year and while in 7th grade. A Body Mass Index and Weight Status Report must be attached to the required physical. This information is required under New York State Education Law (Section 903) by the beginning of the 2008 academic School year. Physicals must include vision, hearing, scoliosis, height, weight, blood pressure, and current immunizations. Please send physicals and body mass index screening to the health office by October 1st. If your child's appointment is after October 1st please call and tell the nurse the date. Physicals not received or noted of when they will occur will be scheduled with our school Physician Dr. Sandor . She will perform a thorough examination. You will be notified if your child needs further treatment.
Scoliosis, vision, and hearing exams are mandated for grade 7 by New York State. Screening will be deferred if physician documented proof of this exam is sent to the Health Office for the 2008- 2009 school year. A dental exam is requested this year but is optional.
7th Grade students may participate in modified sports providing they meet eligibility criteria as listed in the Middle School handbook. Please go to the link marked "Modified Sports" for further information.
