SafetyTECHNOLOGY EDUCATION DEPARTMENT GENERAL SAFETY RULES Contributions towards a Safe Laboratory: 1. Always think “ SAFETY”... Safety is an important aspect of technology class. 2. Wear safety glasses or goggles in danger zones or other designated areas. 3. Be careful how you handle the property of others. Respect the rights of others. Do not vandalize any benches, tools or projects... 4. Report even the slightest injury. Small cuts, improperly treated, may cause serious trouble... 5. Notify your instructor of unsafe conditions you observe in class. 6. Keep the floor and bench tops clear of excessive litter and scrap materials.. 7. Be sure to wear your safety glasses when applying stains or finishes.... 8. See to it that used rags are placed in safety cans when you are finished with them. 9. Safety should be an important part of every job. Safe work habits acquired now will serve you well for years to come.... 10. Do not take any magnetics, from the magnet-levitation vehicle in or near the computers.... Working safely with Tools and Equipment: 1. Ask your teacher to explain any part of your work you do not understand. 2. Carry edge tools with edges pointing downward and keep them out of your pockets.... 3. Clamp all wood securely down before using any edge tools... 4. With a few exceptions, cut away from you when using edge tools....... 5. Report any broken tools to your teacher.. 6. Store tools in their proper places........ 7. Close vises on the benches so that the handles do not protrude in aisles.... Working Safely With and Around Machines: 1. Ask your teacher for permission before using a machine. 2. Have your teacher check your setup before using the machine. 3. See that everyone is standing safely away from the machine, and that everyone around you has safety glasses onbeforeyou operate that machine... 4. Stay Alert !! Keep your mind on the operation of the machine at all times. Do not talk to anyone while operating a machine.... 5. Turn off the machine before making any adjustments to your project... 6. Remember that you as a machine operator are in full charge of the machine.... 7. Ask for assistance when cutting long or heavy pieces of wood... 8. Wear safe clothing... Do Not wear baggy clothing that could get caught in a machine... Role up long sleeve shirts....Use the shop aprons if needed to protect your clothing.... 9. Turn off the machines after every use..... 10. When cutting wood, watch for defects such as warps and knots. These defects may cause serious trouble if trying to cut through them... |
