9-3-09: Bring science notebook and if possible, all school supplies to school
by tomorrow. Bring in signed forms and the All About Me sheet by tomorrow
also.
9-8-09: Read pages 1-3 in the microscope packet and fill out page 4 with the
parts of the microscope and their functions.
9-9-09: No homework
9-10-09: Write 4-5 sentences describing how to get an object focused under
the high power objective, in your notebook in the section we set aside for
homework journal. We are working with microscopes and students are looking
at various objects and drawing what they see in their microscope packets.
They are being graded on neatness and accuracy of their drawings. We will
continue drawing tomorrow.
9-11-09: No science homework. In CORE, students are working with Mr. Todd on
some problem-solving activities involving forces. They will be conducting
some experiments with temperature and heat and using their measuring skills.
They are keeping notes and writing reflections on these activities, which
they will have to show us at the end of 5 weeks to receive a grade of PASS or
FAIL for the first quarter. These notes are kept in either a binder or folder.
9-16-09: Read both pages of the bug charts carefully. Write the names of
each of the bugs next to the pictures - 24 total. Study the group one bugs -
there are 7 of them - for a quiz on Monday. When you see a picure you will
have to recognize what the name of it is.
9-17-09: Study group one macroinvertebrates for a quiz Monday.
9-18-09: Due to the weekend holiday, the quiz on group 1 will be Tuesday.
Also, copy stream vocabulary into your notebook on p.4 by Tuesday.
9-21-09: Quiz on group 1 macroinvertebrates tomorrow. Copy stream vocabulary
words and definitions into your notebook on p.4 by tomorrow. Make sure you
have colored pencils in school tomorrow to work on the stream drawing.
9-22-09: Quiz tomorrow on group 3 taxa. All quizzes and tests must be signed
by parents.
9-24-09: Stream questions due Friday. There are 7 questions all together.
9-25-09: Quiz on stream vocabulary Wednesday. Sign permission slip for
Hunterbrook trip by Friday.
9-29-09: Quiz tomorrow on stream vocabulary. Sign trip permission slip.
Parents also must sign the two quizzes and microscope that were returned.
9-30-09: Questions on how we obtained stream measurements due Friday.

10-5-09: Hunterbrook trips this week: Bring extra socks and pants in case
you get wet. Students will be leaving their 2nd period class by 8:55 and
coming to my room to get clipboards, boots, and other equipment. Then we
will get on the bus and go. We will return to school by lunchtime.
There will be a stream test this coming Friday. Tonight, read all stream
notes carefully in your notebook and folder.
10-6-09: Fill out at least half of the first review sheet, looking up the
information in your notebook.
10-7-09: Fill out the second green review sheet, looking up the information
in you notebook.
10-14-09: Homework journal on what you learned about pH - 4-5 sentences and a
drawing.
10-15-09: Homework journal - describe in detail the steps you would follow to
determine if a chemical is an acid or a base.
10-19-09: Finish organizer Part 1.
10-20-09: Write draft of Part 1 and 2 on pages 13 and 14 in your notebook in
pencil.
10-22-09: Final copy of Part 3 on bottom of back p.14 and write draft of
Part 4 first paragraph onto p.15.
10-27-09: Finish proofreading and write the final copy of your report into
your notebook. Grades will be based on neatness, conventions (spelling,
grammar, punctuation, and capitalization), and content (topic and concluding
sentences, accuracy of data, and details).
10-29-09: 1.Notebooks will be collected and graded Monday. 2.Copy spelling
words 3 times each on looseleaf paper. 3. Quiz tomorrow on spelling words
for stream study.
10-30-09: Notebooks will be collected and graded Monday. Bring a small
object to find the mass on a balance.
11-2-09: Quiz Thursday on mass measurement. Study vocabulary words and know
how to read the numbers on the balance. Know how to find the mass of an
object using a balance. Also complete the practice sheet on mass measurement.
11-5-09: Parents sign your child's notebook grade for the first quarter.
11-6-09: Homework journal: what makes one object heavier that another?
Include the words "matter," "atoms," and perhaps "density." Write using a
topic sentence, concluding sentence, and 3 details.
11-9-09: Homework journal- what are two similarities and 2 differences
between the cardboard box and metal cube?
11-10-09: There will be a supply check on Thursday. You must have all
everyday items in class to receive an A. One item missing is a B, two-C,
three-D, Four or more-F. Also complete the top part of the white measurement
worksheet.
11-13-09: Per. 1 class finish calculations for area and volume on the white
measurement worksheet (you may use looseleaf). Numbers should be neat and
label the item next to your work.
11-16-09: Per. 4 and 7 finish calculations for area and volume on the white
