About Me:

I have been teaching art for 6 years at Willow Road, and I've loved every
minute of it! I received both my BS in Psychology, and MA in Art Education
from Hofstra University. Some people may find it suprising that I didn't
start out as an art teacher. I went to school for psychology, and not until
close to graduation did I minor in Fine art. Upon graduation I worked in an
office as a temp agent for a year and a half. Working in an office was of
course, not for me! So I rediscovered what I really love, art! And more
importantly, teaching art to children. What could be better!!!

Mission For The Class

My philosophy is to provide every student with a well-rounded art education in
order to encourage creative, culturally aware, analytic thinkers. In my
classroom children are guided through the world of art in various ways.
Children explore and create art from many different lands and cultures.
Artists are be brought to life through discussion, exploration and
creation. Important art skills are taught with patience and kindness.
Creativity and risk taking will be encouraged everyday.

Knowing my students and what they’re various learning styles are is also very
important to me. Different students learn in different ways, and I think this
is crucial to learning. I try to teach in a way that many learning styles
can understand. Above all I want to encourage my students to deal with the
curriculum in a creative and expressive way. I also try to challenge my
students to raise their expectations of themselves, and I work with them to
achieve success. It is far more of an accomplishment to have worked
hard at something and achieve success than to do something that took no work
at all. I aim to build students' confidence and self-esteem in this way.

My overall goal for children is to:
Gain knowledge and sensitivity of other cultures
Become fluent in the language of art
Be able to express themselves verbally and visually
Gain skill in various artistic mediums
Experience various artists and their work
Be able to think outside the box, not just in art but in all areas
Have fun
