I have been enjoying teaching since I was 16 years old and worked at
a Head Start Program after school. I thought at the time that I might
like to become a nursery school teacher (or a veterinarian, or an
anthropologist, or stay home and raise goats - you know how we are at
that age!)
My next teaching job was working as an activities coordinator/teacher
aide at an experimental school on the Navajo reservation in Rough
Rock, Arizona. This was funded by the government, but run by a Navajo
Board of Ed., which was unheard of at that time. It was an amazing place
to be and to work. I was honored to work with a WWII Navajo Code Talker,
at that time the principal of the school.
When my children were young, I took a break from daytime employment,
raised those aforementioned goats, and taught Lamaze Childbirth
classes at night. This was also a lot of fun, and many of
my Lamaze "babies" now have children of their own.
I went back to school and got my Master's Degree in Learning
Disabilities. I taught at Mills Lawn for 2 years as the 4th - 5th
grade Resource Teacher. Next I taught in the Learning Disabilities
Resource Room at South High School in Springfield, OH. I taught
there for 8 years, before transferring to Lagonda Elementary School.
Then something I never expected would happen, materialized. There was an
opening for Older Group Teacher at Antioch School! Antioch School was my school of
choice for my own children and where I had wanted to teach since I first encountered it.
To my great joy, I was hired and have been enjoying teaching at Antioch School for 22 years.
I live with my husband, Mike, Stella the poodle, our cat, Luna, our parrotlet, Emmitt, and our flock
of sweet chickens.
To have children graduate from Antioch School filled with motivation,
knowledge, courage, self-confidence, ideas, resourcefulness, love of
their own individuality, and respect for the individuality of others.
