Fine Motor Activites

 

1)      Have your child pick up objects such as blocks, cotton balls, counters, etc. using tweezers or various size tongs transferring them between containers.

2)      Pick up and sort objects such as blocks, coins, beans, marbles, cotton balls, buttons, straws, nuts and bolts, etc., and place them into various size containers, such as egg cartons, cups, mugs, jars, etc.

3)      Screw and unscrew objects such as nuts and bolts or caps from jars

4)      String beads

5)      Stack objects such as coins, blocks, checkers, cards, etc.

6)      Cut straight and curved lines/shapes drawn on paper, cloth, etc. with scissors.

7)      Play the piano

8)      Type

9)      Crumple paper in a small ball and then flick it with finger (play “soccer” with the ball).

10)  Shuffle cards, deal cards one by one, turn over cards.

11)  Roll a pencil between thumb and fingers without dropping it.

12)  Knead dough

13)  Stick small objects into Play-Doh for him/her to pull out

14)  Wind thread on spool evenly

15)  Put rubber bands around various size containers and objects

16)  Move spoonfuls of small objects from one bowl to another

17)  Use tweezers to pick up small objects

18)  Fasten buttons, zippers, hooks, etc.

19)  Tie shoelaces

20)  Trace and copy letters

21)  Do connect the dot puzzles

22)  Solve mazes

23)  Manually sharpen pencils

24)  Use a manual can opener

25)  Tie a box with string or ribbon

26)  Put keys into locks to open doors

27)  Put paperclips onto paper

28)  Use a stapler

29)  Remove staples using a staple remover

30)  Place clothespins on the edge of a box or container

31)  Set a watch or clock

32)  Pick up and move marbles or nuts in shells using melon baller

33)  Use WIKKI STIX to form shapes, letters, numbers and other designs (A template may be used).

34)  Color using the flat side of a crayon. Put paper over leaves, stencils and other objects so that he/she get sensory feedback as he/she colors.

35)  Lace various size beads,

36)  To practice strengthening their fingers for cutting by using a rubber band to stretch, release, stretch, release etc.

37)  Using Play-Doh have him/her poke, squeeze, pound, press, knead, etc. (helps with language development also).
