Can Mrs. Griffith use my help as a volunteer?
Yes, I encourage parents to become involved in their child's education. You
were their first teacher. During our class orientation I will have you fill
out a parent volunteer form so that I can see when and if you are available.
I understand that not everyone will be able to offer time in the classroom,
however you can work at home, attend special events and send in
items for special activities through out the school year. Our goal is to have
volunteers come in on a regular basis and work with centers, projects or small
groups. We will be having throughout the school year a variety of special
activities and celebrations, I encourage you to attend these functions when
possible and to support them by sending in needed supplies or
treats. Your support of school activities makes your child feel important and
lets them know that you value school and learning.
Is there a Parent /Teacher Organization in the school?
Yes, We encourage you to attend when possible. The PTO organizes many of our
school activities and celebrations. There will be a sign up sheet at Open
House, screening, and the classroom orientation with many different ways to
participate in the PTO.
When is Class Orientation and Open House?
The Kindergarten Class Orientations will be held on Friday, September 2,
2011 at 9:30 a.m.. Letters will come home in August with your class
orientation time. Open House for the district will be also held on Monday, August 29 2011 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Why is school attendance in Kindergarten important?
Regular and prompt attendance at school is crucial to your child's success.
Most of Kindergarten learning activities are group oriented and involve
interaction with classmates, thus making it hard to make up this work at home.
Please view school as priority, and see to it that your child attends everyday
except in cases of illness or emergency.
I need to change my child's transportation for the day, what do I do?
If you plan to pick up your child who normally rides that bus, you must send
in a written note signed by a parent or guardian. Since children often become
confused and relay information incorrectly, your child will be sent home by
their usual method of transportation if no note is received.
What are Book Club Orders?
Your child will be bringing home a form to order books from Scholastic once a
month. This is wonderful way to purchase quality books and software for your
child at home at low prices. If you wish to order, simply fill out the form
and send the correct amount of money or a check made out to Scholastic
Clubs in an envelope. As an added bonus, for every dollar that is spent on
books, our class earns bonus points, which are used to purchase books and
software for classroom use. This is a win-win situation because you get
quality books and software at low prices and you are helping to provide
quality literature and software for the classroom. Of course, you are never
under any obligation to order any books.
My child's birthday is coming up, can I send in a treat?
Of course you can. Birthdays are special occasions for young children.
Please send in a note a day or two ahead so that I can give you the number of
children in the class. If your
child has a summer birthday, you may like to celebration their 1/2 birthday
during the school year. It is best if the treat is a non-food item to avoid
any food allergies.
May I donate things for the classroom to use?
Kindergarten classes can always use things for the classroom. Check out the
CLASS NEEDS page for a list of things that are needed for the classroom and
welcome donation of these items. If you have something that is not listed,
please let me know before you send it in.
Are there any fees in Kindergarten?

ITEMS NEEDED: Your child will need the following items:
A standard size book bag which can be opened and closed easily by your child.

Will my child have any homework in Kindergarten?
Homework assignments will be given to our students and we ask for your
cooperation to see that assignments are returned in a timely manner. YOU CAN
HELP TOO! Set aside some time each day to read to your child. This can make a
big difference in his/her life and it reinforces what we do at school.
