4 days left of school!

Dear Room 2 families,

I want to sincerely thank you for a wonderful school year. I hope that you and your child’s first grade experience this year has been as rewarding and fulfilling as mine has. Each of your children will leave a lasting impression on me as I have specific memories with each one.  I want to personally thank all of the volunteers who “popped” in all year long to help our students in some way. I wish you all the best of luck in second grade (and beyond)! Have a wonderful and rest-filled summer.   Thank you so much again!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Harris

*Next week, your child will bring home a DVD slideshow for your family to keep as a momento from first grade. ENJOY!!

Don’t forget to visit our wiki site at:

Look what we’re doing in Room 2:

Writing: I will be grading the “teaching” books and sending them home next week.

The students are also finishing up their rainforest animal books. They are wonderful! I will be grading these as well, based on a rubric I have created. These will also come home next week (after we have an “author share”).

Next week we will also be writing letters to next year’s first graders. These will be on the desks of my new class at open house next year, telling them all about Room 2 and what it’s like to be a first grader! We’ll also be doing a lot of reflecting about our first grade experiences.

We Skyped with our 8th grade buddies on Tuesday, and worked on finishing up our stories that we have been collaborating on for the last few weeks. We will be doing a final whole group Skype next week in order to share the final stories with one another. Please check out our WIKI link above to read these wonderful stories!! (They are interesting!)

Reading: We will finish out the year with some of my favorite inspiring (to me anyway) end of the year read alouds.

I want to thank all of you for your hard work at helping your child become better readers this year. Since first grade is a very important year when it comes to literacy, I always commend the parents for their support and this year is no exception!!

PLEASE RETURN ALL LIBRARY BOOKS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! THESE WERE DUE ON THURSDAY, MAY 24TH AND THE LIBRARY IS PREPARING TO SHUT DOWN FOR THE END OF THE YEAR!!!!

I encourage everyone to check out the Stow Public Library's summer reading program this summer!!!  It will be fabulous!

 Spelling: :)

Math: We have taken our assessment for our last math unit that covered very important place value concepts that we will need for 2nd grade. I believe we have built a strong foundation of these concepts. The use of tens and ones is a GREAT concept to bring up over the summer!

Next week, we’ll be doing some math activities on the Smartboard that will challenge our minds!

Science:  We will be doing some wrap up rainforest activities next week, such as writing rainforest animal riddles for one another and deciding whether we might want to live in a rainforest or not. Again, we will also be taking time to share our rainforest animal research books during our “author share” next week.

Field Day

Next Friday, June 1st is our field day. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately. Also, please be aware, that your child may get a little wet. Hopefully we will have nice weather! This is a fun day for us to celebrate the year together!

Zoo Field Trip

I want to thank Mrs. Ruggles, Mrs. Kopczak, Mrs. Fridline, Mrs. Yamokoski, Mrs. Hayward, Mrs. Keleman and Mrs. Bishop for a WONDERFUL day at the zoo. This was, BY FAR, the lowest stress year for me!! We were blessed with beautiful weather and the kids had a great time. They are still talking about the rainforest animals they saw!
