Hello Parents,
Happy Friday! It's hard to believe that we are through another week of the
school year. We are just rolling right along!
MISC:
* Please sign and return the Super Games Day volunteer paper if you are
able to help out on May 19th.
* Please sign and return your child's grade card envelope.
* Camp is quickly approaching! The cost for camp is $120. If you have
any concerns about covering the cost of camp, please contact the office.
* Several parents have asked if it is OK if kids store deodorant in their
lockers to use after gym and recess, the answer is yes. :)
* Reading OAA - April 27th
* Math OAA - May 3rd
* Science OAA - May 5th
MATH:
Over the next few weeks until the OAAs begin, students are encouraged to take
at least 30 minutes per week and spend time using Study Island on their home
computers. This program is a wonderful way to review concepts already
presented and also a way to have a preview of things yet to be presented. It
can also be used as an enrichment tool for those advanced students who feel
the need for a challenge. Students are able to take the pretest for 6th grade
and then work on the 6th grade lessons. Playing the games is fine, as long as
most of the time is spent on the test questions. This tool will be a major
help for the kids. We have been using SI in class this week and I can see
that some kids have spent a great deal of time using this program. This is
crunch time. Thirty minutes per week should really help.
SOCIAL STUDIES:
The winner of the Battles of the Revolutionary War Film Festival was featured
on this morning's edition of Bobcat TV. Congratulations to Maddy, Fran and
Taylor and their winning film, "Battle of Seratoga."
SCIENCE:
Students have been exploring with flashlights, combs, protractors and other
materials to learn about how light reflects. Your child has been typing a
summary about reflection on a google doc. If you have some time this weekend,
ask your son/daughter to share his/her summary with you.
