About The Teacher

Scott Heath is a graduate of The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of 
Music Education and a graduate of Arizona State University with a Master of 
Music.  

Mr. Heath taught in the Springfield Northeastern Local School District, and 
London (Ohio) City Schools before coming to Grandview in 2000.  He was also 
an adjunct euphonium instructor at Otterbein College for two years.  

Mr. Heath is an internationally recognized euphonium soloist and is a past 
member of the Brass Band of Columbus, the Central Ohio Brass Band, and the 
Ohio Collegiate Brass Band.  He has won two international solo 
competitions on the euphonium, including the 1994 Rafeal Mendez institute 
euphonium solo competition in Phoenix, and the 1995 ITEC Artist Division 
Euphonium solo competition in Chicago.  He was also a finalist in the 
Leonard Falcone international Euphonium Solo competition in 1989 and 1990. In 
addition he was the soloist of the day at the North American Brass Band 
Championships in 1990 (Pittsburg) and again in 1997 (Raleigh, NC.), and 
winner of the adult technical solo competition in 2000 when NABBA was held in 
Columbus, Ohio. Mr. Heath had the privelege of playing with the Brass Band of 
Columbus when they traveled to Birmingham, England in 2000. He was a five 
year member of The Ohio State University Marching Band, and a squad leader in 
1989 and 1990.  He has been a member of ensembles that have performed at the 
Ohio Music Education Conference, and the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in 
Chicago.

His private students have won seats in Ohio all state bands and have won 
state and national level solo honors.  He has several students who are alumni 
of the Ohio State University Marching Band.

His teachers include Dr. Paul Droste, Professor Dan Perantoni, and Dr. Brian 
Bowman, and he as taken lessons from Timothy Northcutt, Joel Pugh, and Arthur 
Lehman.

Teaching duties include recruiting students for instrumental music, teaching 
fourth grade general music, directing fifth, sixth, and seventh grade band, 
and team teaching the 8th grade band with Kie Watkins.  In addition, Mr. 
Heath is the assistant high school band director at Grandview High School, 
where he is the chief drill writer for the Grandview Marching Band, and has 
been writing half time shows for the band for the past 8 years.

Mission For The Class

Learn fundamentals of music through instrumental performance, create music 
of various styles on musical instruments, develop good practice and 
performance habits, work to achieve a team concept through playing in the 
band.
