Grading Policy

ART GRADING  PROCEDURES for Grades 4-8

Homework Policy

Most art activities are classroom project based and need to be done during class time. Because I only see the students once a week there may be times that outside preparation work must be done to start a project. In addition, it is important that I keep all students working in a timely manner so that major projects are completed on time, thus there will be times that homework needs to be assigned.

Because all homework is related to the classroom project it is never given a grade. If the assignment is not completed, an M is recorded and 1 point will be given on the behavior card for failure to bring materials to class. The M will not changed on Option C if the work is not completed on the day it is due unless a student is absent. This serves as a record for the student’s parents and the teacher.

If a student is absent on the day the assignment is due, the student is required to turn in assignments the next day that they and I are present. Work must be turned in directly to me, students are aware of my building schedule.* It is the student’s responsibility to adhere to this policy.

Absences

All homework assignments and classroom projects are posted on Option C. It is the student’s responsibility to see me before the due date for any handout or clarification of the assignment. For short-term absences all assignments are due on the due date. Please contact me if there are long-term absences that effect work, which will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

Extra Copies

Students will be given one extra copy of an assignment. However, 1point will be given on the behavior card for failure to bring materials to class.

Missing Classroom Projects

All projects will be completed and the grade will be adjusted based on the turn in date. For each day a project is late 5 points will be deducted, if the work is not completed be the second day, completion of the assignment will take place during recess or immediately after school. In creating art some students may require more time. I am flexible on this issue if I see the student working throughout the project. The students must see me before the due day so I can record the information in my grade book.
