January brings hopes of a snow day and lots of preparation for Open House and Catholic Schools Weeks. We hope you will visit our classroom during Open House on January 29th. This will be the start of our celebration of Catholic Schools Week.
Biography Project: Watch the Friday Folder for instructions and information about our biography project. We will provide a biography for each student to read. As always, students are welcome to pick out their own biography at home or the public library.
January 20th marks the end of 2nd quarter. Please check your child's progress in meeting the AR requirement for this quarter.
In Our Classroom:
Reading: We will soon be testing on Unit 2 skills. Skills we will be working with in Unit 3 are cause and effect, context clues, and summarizing. We will also continue our phonic work with vowel pairs, diagraphs, and blends.
Math: We will begin Ch. 4 in January and will be working with addition strategies including 2 digit addition with and without regrouping. Keep reviewing math facts each week to keep computation skills strong.
Social Studies: We will begin our study of the Great Lakes. We will be learning about their location, size, and interesting facts about each one.
Religion: We will be concluding our study of Reconciliation. By Christmas many of our second graders will have received the sacrament in their home parish. Congratulations to all of them.
We wish everyone a happy & healthy 2012!
