Do second graders have snacks in the morning?
Yes, We usually have snack in the morning. Please pack your child
a healthy snack such as fruit, cheese, granola bars,1/2 sandwich,
etc. Messy, wet snacks are not permitted because we continue
working as we eat.
How can I help my child at home?
Please review math facts (addition and subtraction to 18), money
amounts, and time 3 times a week. Also review spelling words and
have your child read orally and silently 3 times a week.
When will they start cursive?
We usually start teaching cursive sometime in January. We prefer
that students use only print until we have introduced both
lowercase and capital letters in cursive. At that time we will
begin to use it in the classroom.
When and where will my child be prepared for First Communion?
Second Grade students will prepare for receiving their First
Communion at their parish. You will receive information from
your parish regarding preparation and class times at a later date.
We also support this preparation in our classroom Religion classes by
covering our textbook's information on Reconciliation and Eucharist.
Will my child take any standardized testing this year?
The Iowa Tests of Basic Skills will be administered during
October for grades 2, 4, 6, & 8. You will be informed of the
exact dates by your child's teacher and through school mail in
your Tuesday envelope.
Can parents / grandparents volunteer to help in the classroom?
Yes, we need volunteers to help both the students and teachers.
This can be a once a week commitment or every other week. A form
will go home in the parent packet at the beginning of the year
listing areas where you can
volunteer.
