III. Mayor "Golden Rule" Jones1. Was called "Golden Rule" because he kept
the golden rule posted on his office door and
lived by it
2. Was fair to all workers
3. Was mayor of Toledo in the early 1900's
4. Built new schools, tore down slums and
built new housing, hired more policemen and
firemen, paved and cleaned up the city
streets, gave city workers the eight-hour
work day, and donated his salary to the poor.
IV. Mayor Johnson1. Built public parks along the waterfront,
paved the streets, put in the first
electric streetlights, and started
citywide garbage pickup.
V. William Howard Taft became president ofthe United States. He eventually ended
up being the Chief Justice of the Supreme
Court.

1. Minimum wage-a law that says the
workers must not be paid below a
certain amount of money.
2. Workmen's compensation-if a worker
gets hurt on the job, they would be
given money while they stayed home to
get better
