I graduated from Kent State University in 1978 (bachelor of Science in
Speech and Language) and received a MAT from Marygrove College (masters in
the art of teaching).
My first job was with the Stark County Department of Education. I was the
Stark County Audiologist Assistant. I went to every elementary in Stark
County and did hearing screening. In 1982, I started working for the Perry
Local Schools as a speech pathologist. I am still here due to the love and
respect I have for Perry and my colleagues.
Bob and I got married in 1976. My children are 1998 and 2003 Perry
graduates. Hopefully by grandson, TJ will be a Perry grad someday!
My hobbies are dressing like a clown for children events and speaking at
conferences on how to use music (songs) to teach language skills.
If you look in a Mayer-Johnson catalog, you will find my ROCKIN WITH ROBYN
products. I have written and record songs that teach children basic
concepts and vocabulary. Along with that I wrote a workbook for teachers
with a lesson plan for every song and worksheets to help teach the
concepts.
Lastly, I sell on my own language videos that teach basic concepts,
beginning sign language and they teach the signs/words to my songs. There
are 3 videos:
FALL (Produced at my house)
WINTER (Produced in Pfeiffer?s library with students Ben
Klick and Marc Murray )
SPRING (Produced at Watson Elementary with numerous from
Watson, Lohr, and Pfeiffer Schools)
I have always been a traveling teacher. I have done therapy at Knapp,
Whipple, Reedurban, Richville, Lohr, Watson, Pfeiffer, Edison and Perry
High. I have always gone to multiple schools a day.
Some day I hope to be on Oprah just to talk about all my life experiences as
a Speech Pathologist! I would love to have my own kids TV show (like Mr.
Rogers or Romper Room).
I am a member of Quota Club of Massillon, board member of ARC of Stark
County, and Staff member of HandPrints (signing) choir
For fun: I am an Avon Lady!
Every Fall, I teach Sign Language for Our Perry Adult Education. It is once
a week in the Fall for two hours each session.
My mission is to help each child reach his or her fullest potential and be
able to communicate his or her wants and needs.
