As the school year quickly heads toward
its conclusion, I look at summer break through different eyes.
**
Summer has always been a time to relax,
catch up on things long set aside, and then get more tech training in
preparation for the new school year in late August.
**
This year summer brings the beginning
of a new phase in my life...retirement. After more than 40 years of teaching,
it is time to move on and spend more time with family and more time on myself.
**
The years I spent teaching on Guam, in
Maine and in Ohio have all held the same motivation for me. My goal has always
been to teach the children responsibility. I truly hope that as the children
left my care, they eventually realized that their first job was to accept
responsibility for themselves in words and actions...and also in their
education.
**
Although some may doubt it, I know that
I will miss the children next year, but I wish them all well. I know I will
miss my colleagues, but new doors are opening all the time for all of us. I
know I will miss my parent volunteers, because they have been some of the
best, most supportive people I could hope to work with here.
**
Thank you all for the experience of
working with you. I hope that our paths will cross again some time in the
future.
