This page is announcements that are not directly related to North Union, but 
are more college/career oriented.  This is information that was sent to our 
office. The more recent announcements are toward the top of the page.

Any student who is planning to attend DeVry University needs to stop in the 
guidance office for DeVry Scholarship information. 

Wright State University is holding an ASSESS program on June 27. Students 
who are interested in engineering and computer science are encouraged to 
attend. The ASSESS program is an academic diagnostic used to determine 
whether or not engineering/computer science is a suitable career for you.

Visit Days at Eastern Michigan University: they have several different dates 
planned. Look at their website for more details, www.emich.edu. Don't 
forget, there are no out-of-state fees at E. Michigan.  

The University of Toledo is now offering loans with 0% interest to new 
fulltime undergraduate students. Contact Samuel Giles at 419-530-5701 for

John Carroll University in the Cleveland area has announced a new financial 
aid initiative. Students who come from families with an annual income of 
less than $40,000 are strongly encouraged to apply for admission. They have 
restructued their budget to assure that those students will have no out-of-
pocket costs for tuition and fees. Please see their website for more

Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio is starting two new programs in the 
fall of 2007: Engineering Science and Multi-Media and Graphic Design. They 
are also starting a nursing program in fall of 2008.  

The Ohio Board of Regents has a hotline to provide information to residents 
of Ohio. They will provide financial aid and college information to you free 
of charge. The phone number is 1-877-I-ATTAIN or 1-877-428-8246 and the 
hours are 8-5 in December 2006 and 10-6 beginning January 2007. 

The Christian Connector is a free Christian college information service. 
Their website is www.christianconnector.com. 

Miami University in Oxford, Ohio is starting a new program in fall of 2007. 
The new Miami Access Imitiative guarantees free tuition for academically 
qualified students from families with incomes less than $35,000.  For more 
information, check out their website at www.muohio.edu.

entering classes in Fall 2008) MAKE SURE YOU CHECK DEADLINES FOR 
SCHOLARSHIPS WITH EACH COLLEGE AS THEY VARY FROM COLLEGE TO COLLEGE. JUST 
BECAUSE THEY DO NOT HAVE AN APPLICATION DEADLINE DOES NOT MEAN THEY DO NOT 
HAVE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION DEADLINES.

Memorial Hospital of Union County is looking for volunteers, ages 13-18. 
There are some applications in the guidance office, or you can call 1-800-
686-4677 ext. 2360 for more information. 

The University of Toledo now offers a Bachelor of Science in Respiratory 
Care. If you would like to become a respiratory therapist, you should check 
this program out. Webpage:

There are many different links to various groups and web pages on this web 
site. Please note that the information included on those linked web sites do 
not necessarily reflect the views of the North Union guidance office.

ohioMentor.org is a free, interactive website designed to make it easier to 
plan for higher education and apply to postsecondary throughout Ohio. The 
site helps students plan their careers, search for schools, and offers 
online applications for admission and student aid. The website offers campus 
tours, assistance in matching your needs and interests with specific careers 
and colleges, established direct e-mail communication with campus 
representatives, offers financial aid calculators, performs scholarship 
searches, and provides a host of other features including a comprehensive 
section on students aid.

NCAA information - if you are planning on being eligible for an athletic 
scholarship with a division I or II school, you must file a NCAA 
clearinghouse student release form. This should be done at the beginning of 
the senior year. Students are encouraged to register online at 
www.ncaaclearinghouse.net.  In addition, students must mark code 9999 as one 
of their choices in the section on college and scholarship codes on their 
ACT or SAT I registration forms. This should be done whenever they take the 
tests.  Prospective students should also be aware of the index for 
eligibility including a minimum GPA in core classes. Fourteen core courses 
are required. Computer science will no longer be used as a core course. 

Ohio State information:
Deadline for admission to main campus, Fall 2008: February 1, 2008
ACT or SAT scores must be submitted from the testing agency, not the high 
school. OSU also requires the ACT or SAT writing exam. 
FAFSA deadline: March 1, 2008

Ohio Northern University news: Pharmacy students should apply for admission 
by Nov. 1st. After that date, you will only be considered for admission if 
space is available. All other applicants should apply by December 1st. 

Several anorexia/eating disorder links have been added to this website in 
the personal/social section. 

Marion Technical College allows students to apply for programs once they 
have completed pre-requisites. This is important for students interested in 
the nursing program. Once a student has completed chemistry, he/she may 
apply to enter the program. 

Morehead State University in Morehead, Kentucky is now offering in-state 
tuition to all Ohio residents. Students who score at least an 18 on the ACT 
are unconditionally accepted into the college. Tution is roughly $4,340 per 
year (does not include room and board.) Students who score a 23 or higher on 
the ACT may qualify for scholarships. Their website is 
www.moreheadstate.edu. 

Young men who are 18 or about to turn 18 must register with the selective 
service. If you do not register you will not be eligible for any financial 
aid. Their website is www.sss.gov. You should register within 30 days of 
your 18th birthday. 

The Ohio State University is pleased to announce that it will award 88 Land 
Grant Opportunity Scholarships this year - one to a student from each of 
Ohio's 88 counties. No separate application is required for the award - 
however you must have your application for admission turned in before Feb. 
1st and have your FAFSA filed before March 1st.
