NORWALK CATHOLIC SCHOOL

PTO GENERAL MEETING

 

MEETING MINUTES

 

 

DATE:  Wednesday, September 16, 2009

 

TIME:  7:00 p.m.

 

LOCATION:  ECC Gym/Reynold’s Hall

 

ATTENDANCE:  23 members (attendance list available upon request)

 

INTRODUCTION: 

WELCOME AND OPENING PRAYER

 

MEETING MINUTES:

*Members are expected to view the previous minutes on the NCS website and be prepared to suggest any additions or corrections at the next meeting.

*The minutes are posted on the website one week before each meeting.

*Approval of May Minutes – Kathy O. (motion) – Keri J. (second)

 

TREASURER’S REPORT:

*Presented by Julie G. (treasurer)

*Checking = $7,456.57

*Savings = $23,677.95 – will donate money to new playground

*Total = $31,134.52

*Five teachers have used their $50 supplies money – over ten did not use it last school year

 

REVIEW OF 2009-2010 BUDGET:

*This budget was approved at the last PTO meeting.

*Working hard to keep to budget this year

*Coordinators try to use only amount provided for each event

*Honey Baked Ham Sale – Christmas only – no Easter

*No Indoor Garage Sale this year

*Kalahari Night – winter event more profitable

 

2009-2010 ACTIVITIES UPDATE:

SPAGHETTI SUPPER

*Will be held on February 4, 2010  - ECC Gym

*Denise Stine (coordinator) – Mrs. Bonnie Shelley will assist

*Need many volunteers  – make calls for donations – help with cooking, etc.

 

BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS

*Scheduled for June 2, 2010

*Need new coordinator – Penny S. no longer plan event

 

ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS FOR ECC/ES

*Welcome any ideas – Mrs. McLaughlin will look at new brochure for ideas

 

PLAYGROUND COMMITTEE UPDATES:

RACE TOWARDS A PLAYGROUND FUNDRAISER

*Held September 26, 2009

*72 tickets sold – can sell more at meeting - $25 (include meal and 3 drinks)

*Can buy a horse – name it – win for horse even if not able to attend

*Cheerleaders  - babysit children

 

ES PLAYGROUND FENCE

*Materials already purchased – received approval – waiting for volunteer to install soon – will turn shed

*Joe Lesch offer assistance of Knights of Columbus

*Lisa H. – need volunteers for clean-up – list of volunteers made by Laura P.

 

OLD BUSINESS:

ORIENTATION FOLDERS

*Keep one folder per child – not one per family

*Maybe need volunteer list for next year – help make folders during summer

 

TEACHER RETREAT LUNCHEON

*Was held on August 21st – went well – good food – teachers/staff  enjoyed this event

 

NEW BUSINESS:

WALK-A-THON

*Scheduled for October 14th  - NCS Spirit Day

*Keri J./Monica P. (coordinators)

*Will have other activities – make into a fitness day

*Incentives - Kalahari drawing for certain donations

 

FALL BOOK FAIR

*Nickie S. (ES) – Katie B. (ECC)

*Week of October 26th – 30th

*Theme – “Destination Book Fair:  Read Around the World”

*Fall money go to library – spring money for classroom supplies

*FCEDO may have muffins one morning for parents – get Scholastic points for this event

 

 

PASTRIES WITH PARENTS

*Stacy S. (coordinator)

*Held at ECC on October 27th – ES Pastries will be held in April

*Volunteers will be contacted soon

*Maybe cut pastries in half or get smaller ones to save money – less waste

*Drinks – cheapest at time

*Supplies – still a lot left from past events

*Maybe Shana get donations from snack/supplies list

 

PLAYGROUND CONCERNS/NEEDS

*ES - Open discussion - compiled a list of concerns from many parents regarding playground – use list in discussion

*Playground times have changed for 1st grade – allow younger children more room to play without older students on playground

*Would like to have at least one more monitor each day – one in charge of 1st grade

*Mr. Beal will teach playground games in class– will continue to do this at the beginning of each school year

*Need to get rid of some supplies – open Frisbees, etc. – Jesse M. will remove these items

*ECC playground – Sarah A. need volunteers for Thursdays – want 3 each day

 

DOUGH RAISING NIGHT

*Planned for September 30th

*Gina H. (coordinator)

*Money not go to playground this time

*Will be listed in Friday Flyer/church bulletins soon

 

OTHER BUSINESS:

*Information for coordinators :  call everyone on volunteer list – always extend opportunity to participate – should publicize event in bulletins, Friday Flyer, etc. – stay within budget or go under

*Lisa H. suggested adding Sunny D. to Trash to Treasure – members agreed
