What We Learned This Past Week....
Have you seen the children’s drawings in the hallway? They did a wonderful
job making illustrations of what they are thankful for. The children also
made placemats for our Thanksgiving Feast (which are now laminated). They
will be bringing them home on Tuesday. We learned about the Letter I this
past week, including writing and identifying both the capital and lower case
letter. Our letter snack was ice cream, which the children really enjoyed.
Each week the children trace sandpaper letters, listen and sing phonics songs
and identify pictures that correspond with our letter of the week. Children
learn in different ways, so using these different teaching strategies helps
them recognize letters by name and sound. Miss Anna brought her violin to
school this week and played for the children. She did a wonderful job
explaining what a violin is and how it is played. She will playing a couple
of songs for our Christmas program and the children were excited to practice
singing with her. The children also made their own instruments on Thursday.
Thank you to Mrs. Roth for donating the plastic bottles. The children
counted the beans as they filled their containers and decorated them with
stickers. This activity helped the children with counting and strengthening
their fine motor skills. Mrs. Betsy Pertner, the Guidance Counselor for
Norwalk Catholic School shared a book with the children on tattling. She
then discussed rules for tattling and talked about solving problems and
conflicts. The children really enjoyed her visit. As I read the story
Stone Soup to the children in preparation for our Thanksgiving feast, we
talked about how the characters in the story showed generosity and sharing
with others. We are looking forward to making our own stone soup this week.
50’s Day
Attached to this newsletter is your child’s initiation to our 50’s Day
Celebration! Remember to dress your children in fifties style clothing on
Thursday, December 3rd.
We are also collecting food items for the local food pantry. We are hoping
to collect 50 canned or boxed items. The children will then learn the
quantity of 50 while also helping others in need. Your donations are
welcome anytime this week.
Thanksgiving Party
Our class Thanksgiving Party will be Tuesday, November 24th. Parents and
Grandparents are welcome to attend on that day. The children will be helping
to prepare the stone soup, fruit salad and butter for our feast on Monday,
November 24th. Thank you for all your donations.
Christmas Program
Our class Christmas Program will be held on Wednesday, December 16th at
10:00am. Your children will still need to arrive at school by 9:00 am.
Since this is a short program it will be held during school hours. The
children have started practicing their songs. We hope you will be able to
attend.
We wish you and your families a Happy Thanksgiving!
Mrs. Scavuzzo & Mrs. Rospert
Donations: We would appreciate donations of empty baby food jars. Also, if
anyone you know has an old/broken DVD or VCR player we would gladly accept it
in our classroom. The children would enjoy trying to fix it at the
woodworking center.
