ACCELERATED READER:
Refer to my webpage for any questions about AR. Children may start taking AR 
tests as of Monday, November 9.
UPCOMING EVENTS:
REPORT CARDS: came home on November 6... you may keep the contents of the 
envelope.Please sign the back of the envelope and return it to school ASAP.
PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES: November 10 and 12 right after school & in evening
EARLY RELEASE: Friday, November 13 

LANGUAGE ARTS NEWS:
READING: 
TUESDAY'S READING: The little paperback will be in your child's folder. 
Return it on Wednesday.
SOUNDS FOR THE WEEK: Long a spelled a_e and soft sound of c /s/ as in face 
and the soft sound of g /j/ as in age.
BASAL READING: . You will read the story on Wednesday and work on fluency on 
Thursday with rereading the same story.  Your child should be able to read 
the story without stopping to sound out words. It should be read smoothly and 
with expression. 
ENGLISH This week we continue to learn about nouns as words that name 
persons, places, animals, and things.  In addition we will learn about proper 
nouns that name particular persons, places and things. We will learn that 
these words begin with capital letters.
SPELLING: We will have a spelling test on Friday.   You may want to have your 
child try writing the words for you to check if he/she can spell the words 
and write them correctly.
LIBRARY: Remember Wednesday is our library day.  

RELIGION: We will be finishing up Chapter 8 and Unit 2 this week.
MATH: We will learn the subtracting one facts this week. The strategy is when 
subtracting one from a number we count backwards by one.

We will also learn to count dimes by 10's to find how much money we have.
