College Visit Days/ Fairs:
Bowling Green State University Media and Communication Day will be held Friday, November 6, 2009 from 9:30 am to 2 pm on the BGSU campus. This is a wonderful opportunity for students interested in careers in communication, journalism, public relations, telecommunications and visual communication technology. Representatives from each of these departments will be on hand to answer questions in addition to special tours of the media facilities being available.
Also on the agenda are panels with current media and communication students, and breakout sessions on various majors and programs in the fields of media and communication. Lunch is provided and will feature a keynote address from Tom Walton, BGSU alumnus and former editor and vice president of The Toledo Blade. Attendance is limited to 100 students. Scholarships:
Eight Annual National CO-OP Scholarship Program. The National Commission will award 170 merit CO-OP scholarships to high school seniors who plan to participate in college cooperative education at one of their partner colleges and universities. Please go to www.co-op.edu for more information. Mrs. Pertner has an application or there is a link online. The application is due by February 15th, 2010.
AXA Achievement Scholarship. There is more information on this scholarship at www.axa-achievement.com. Apply by December 15, 2009.
BGSU has announced their STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) scholarships for incoming freshman in fall 2010. If you are interested, please go to www.bgsu.edu/action for an application.
Apply now for the “Oh, the Places you’ll go!” college scholarship program. Mrs. Pertner has the applications, or you can go online to www.ohtheplaces.org to print out an application. These are due February 15, 2010.
The Hawthorne Foundation Scholarship was created to provide financial assistance for students pursuing a post-secondary education in the health care field who live in Huron County and the surrounding communities. Mrs. Pertner has the application. Please stop in the office. These are due February 26, 2010.
The ProMedica health system has announced an exciting program, which can earn students $5000 for college. The program encourages healthy lifestyles, while promoting solid nutrition and exercise habits. Teams of 2 or 4 students in grades 10-12 will design a exercise program for elementary students. Each member of the winning team will receive a $5000 scholarship and the school will get $1000. The winning program will be implemented in an elementary school in the area that the ProMedica system serves. All entries are due by December 1, 2009. Any senior that is applying to Ohio University, You can apply for the Addicott, Mercer, & Wisda Scholarship. Priority is given to graduates of SPH!
The KFC Colonel's Scholars Program: Complete the application at

High school seniors that are planning to enroll next fall at an eligible four-year college or university participating in the U.S. Bank No Fee Education Loan Program are eligible to apply for a scholarship through U.S. Bank. Please visit

Mrs. Pertner is planning a College/Financial Aid Informational Night in connection with the Parent-Teacher conferences on November10th. It will begin at 5:30 pm, and the location has been changed to room 310 instead of the library (Biology room).
There are new resources in the guidance office for ACT preparation. Please come to the office if you are interested in borrowing any materials.
The ACT test will be administered at SPH in February this year, not April. Please sign up to take the test here as soon as possible. The seats fill up fast!
