Arrival and Tardiness

Arrival
* The drop off time for those children entering the school via the cafeteria is 7:45 –
7:55 a.m. Children should be in the classroom by 8 a.m. ready for class.
* Please walk your child to the cafeteria doors to make sure someone is there to walk your child to the classroom.
* At no time will the children be entering through Mrs. Barney’s outside classroom door.
* Children arriving by bus will walk over with the bus riders from the church parking lot.

Tardiness
* Our day is short so please try to avoid this. Often the first 15 minutes
are very important. Many directions for the morning are given then.
* If a child is late, stop by the office to check in before sending your child
to the classroom.

Dismissal

Dismissal for Half Day Kindergarten
* Dismissal is at 11:25 a.m. for morning kindergarten. The parking lot needs to be cleared for recess no later than 11:35 a.m. For your child’s safety, parents are to walk onto the courtyard to get their children. Children are not permitted to enter the parking lot unattended.
* If someone other than the routine person is picking up your child, please let your child’s teacher know in writing that morning. No email, please. Have that person introduce themselves to me when picking up your child.
* If an emergency arises, please notify the office as to whom will be picking up your child.
* If you are running late (after 11:30 a.m.), your child will be waiting in the office.

Dismissal for Full Day Kindergarten
* Children who do not have a sibling in grades 4-8 and are cafeteria parking lot car riders will be dismissed at 2:25 via Mrs. Barney’s classroom door.
* The remainder of the children will be taken to the old gym to meet a sibling or a child designated by you to walk them to the bus, car in the church parking lot and cafeteria lot, or to walk home. The sibling or child needs to be in grades 4-8. Please have the older child introduce themselves to your child’s kindergarten teacher on one of the first two days of school. Children going to After School Care will meet the director in the gym as well. You will fill out a dismissal form at the Open House.

Lunch Time

All Day Kindergarten Lunch Time
* During this time your child will go to lunch and recess with the primary children. The children will be under supervision of either the aides or a kindergarten teacher.
* There are no hot lunches at OLL. Children must pack their own lunch. On Fridays, such foods as LaRosa's pizza and Skyline chili are brought in for purchase. This is optional. Look in your child’s folder for order forms on the previous Friday. This must be returned no later than the following Wednesday.
* Milk and orange drink (35 cents) are always available as well as some snack items. On Thursdays we have bakery cut out cookies for 40 cents. We do not allow the children to have more than one paid snack per day. Only send enough money for one day at a time. Thank You!
* Your child will be returning any uneaten food in his/her lunch box. Please take note of this and pack accordingly so that food is not wasted.

Correspondence and E-Mail

Correspondence and email
* The folder that your child carries in his/her book bag to and from school each day is the vehicle by which we communicate. Please put all notes and homework in this folder because we do not search book bags for missing items. Make sure that you remove all of the previous day’s contents.
* Assignments missed due to absence will come home in an envelope via a sibling or other designated child. Return the envelope the next day so that we have it for the next time your child is absent.
*A monthly calendar giving you notice of monthly events will be sent home at the beginning of each month. Also, please frequent the web page for announcements as well. The web page can be found through the Lourdes web page. That address is www.lourdes.org. Or, you can go directly to teacherweb.com/OH/OLL/MrsBarney or teacherweb.com/OH/OLL/MrsMeyer.
* Also, the school sends out a weekly newsletter, THE LOURDES LOWDOWN, each Friday. It is also posted on the school website.
* Correspondence such as reminders and personal notes are sent via your child’s folder. The web page is a source of information as well. If you have a concern, you should try to reach your child’s teacher by phone, note, or email before the problem persists and becomes a real problem. Response to your concern will be given at our earliest convenience.
* Email to your child’s teacher should be used only when necessary. Email should not be used to report absences, tardiness, and change in transportation or anything that affects your child for that school day. We may not log into our email in time and may miss something important. Please write a note for all of these items.

Daily Snack, Zero The Hero, Super Kid, and Birthdays

Daily Snack
* Your child will be bringing a snack each day that there is not a snack provided, a birthday, or Super Kid snack. Any deviations to routine snacks will be provided on the monthly calendar.
* This should be something nutritious. So, we ask that no dessert items or chips of any sort be sent in. If a sandwich is sent, it should be no more than a half sandwich.
* Please pack all snacks separately from your child's lunch if he/she is staying all day.
* There is a $63 fee for snack drinks only. This is payable at the beginning of the year. Drinks are provided daily. Your child may have chocolate milk, white, or orange drink.

Zero the Hero
* Every 10th day of school, we celebrate “Zero the Hero Day.” If your child is to bring snack, it will be written on the calendar. Please make the treat something in the shape of a zero or loop. Some suggestions are a donut, bagel, or circle pretzels.

Super Kid
* Your child will have a turn to be Super Kid for a week. The Super Kid becomes my special helper and will get to bring in his/her snack of choice generally on Monday. Also, he/she will have the opportunity to share something from home each day. A schedule will be available at the Meet the Teacher meeting next week.

Birthdays
* Sweet snacks are welcome but not necessary. Please no sheet cakes or cupcakes as this gets messy. Anything that is easy for the children to handle will help things go more smoothly. Possible options are brownies, cookies, candy, and ice cream bars. About twenty four treats will be sufficient. There is no need to bring drinks as the children will have a drink from the cafeteria.
* Summer birthdays are celebrated as half birthdays in the winter or in May. Saturday birthdays will be celebrated on the Friday before. Sunday birthdays will be on Monday.
* We do have children with food/nut allergies. To be safe we ask that your child’s treat not have nuts of any sort. Please inform your child’s teacher if he/she has a food allergy.
* Please limit the birthday celebration to snack only. There should be no party favors and gift bags. This avoids many problems!

Note: If you are having a party at home for your child, please mail all party invitations so that no one’s feelings get hurt. It is preferred that children do not pass out invitations at school.

Music, Library and Gym

Music
Your child should always carry an umbrella in his/her backpack. Your
child will need it on
rainy days to get to music.

Gym
Please make certain that your child wears gym shoes for gym class.

Library
Your child will have the opportunity to bring home one library book per week.
We will be going to the library on Thursdays. Please have the book returned
by the next scheduled library day so that another book may be taken out. It
may be brought back earlier as I have a basket in the classroom to put it in.
