Arrival and Tardiness
ARRIVAL:
* The drop off time for those children entering the school via the cafeteria
is 7:45-7:55. Mrs. Bock will be at the door to greet them and
an eighth grader will walk your child to the classroom. Please walk your
child to the cafeteria doors to make sure someone is there to walk them to
the classroom. If late, please walk them into the classroom after stopping
by the office.
*At no time will the children be entering through Mrs. Barney's outside
classroom door.
* Children arriving by bus will walk over with the bus riders.
* Children dropped off in the church parking lot will walk over with the
older children.
TARDINESS:
* Our day is short so please try to avoid this. Often the first 15 minutes
are very important. Many directions for the morning are given then.
* Your child needs to be ready and in the classroom by 8:00
* A child is considered to be tardy after 8:00 until 8:45. After that
he/she is considered absent.
* If a child is late, stop by the office to check in before walking your
child to the classroom. Do not come to Mrs. Barney's outside classroom door.
Dismissal
* Dismissal is at 11:25. The parking lot needs to be cleared out for lunch
recess no later than 11:35. For your child's safety, parents are to walk
onto the courtyard to get their children. I will not permit the children to
enter the parking lot unattended. Mrs. Barney's children will dismiss from
the outside classroom door. Mrs. Meyer's class will dismiss from the
cafeteria door.
* If someone other than the routine person is picking up your child please
let me know in writing that morning. No E-Mails please. Have that person
introduce themselves to me when your child is picked up.
* If an emergency arises please notify the office as to who will be picking
up your child.
* If you are running late (after 11:30) your child will be waiting in the
office.
Enrichment
* This is an extended day experience that is offered to your child from the
end of morning kindergarten till 2:30. You have the option of signing up
for a minimum of two days per week to five days. The days that your child
comes needs to be the same day of the week each week. Varying schedules
cannot be accommodated.
* The cost is $10 per day and is tax deductible.
* During this time your child will go to lunch and recess with the primary
children, return to the kindergarten classroom for rest time/story time then
have activities enriching topics taught in the A.M. class, and have playtime.
*The class will be taught three days per week by Mrs. Barney (M,T,F)
Dismissal by Mrs. Barney's classroom door, and W,TH by Mrs. Reid who will
dismiss from the cafeteria door.
*Enrollment in the class can begin at anytime during the year. Please
contact Mrs. Barney about this.
* There are no hot lunches at OLL. Children must pack their own lunch. On
Fridays such foods as LaRosa's pizza and Skyline chili are brought in for
purchase. This is optional. Orders are placed by Wednesdays. Milk and
orange drink are always available as
well as some snack items. Drinks are 30 cents.
We do not encourage the purchase of snacks because we have found the the
children often do not eat their lunch. However, snacks are available. We ask
that you only send enough for one snack on any particular day. Item and cost
list will be made available to you during the first week of school.
Many parents tend to over pack their child's lunch. We will send home any
uneaten lunch so that you have an idea of how much to pack.
Your child will need a pillow no larger than 12X12 and a lunch box.
Correspondence and E-Mail
* The folder that your child carries in their book bag to and from school
each day is the vehicle by which we communicate. Please put all notes and
homework in this folder because I do not search for things in their book
bags. Please have your child bring in his/her folder each day. The
previous day's contents should be removed by you prior to sending your child
to school. If there is homework please remember to put it in his/her folder
prior to coming to school.
* Notes to the teacher need not be in an envelop and any monies being sent
into school have to be in an envelope with child's name and purpose marked
on the front.
* Please let me know early if there seems to be a problem. Please let me
know by note or call school and I will return your phone call at my earliest
convenience.
* A monthly kindergarten calendar will be sent home.
* I post a weekly newsletter on my web page to keep you informed of upcoming
news (generally available Mondays). It will also be printed for those who do
not have an e-mail address.
* Also, the school sends out a weekly newsletter, THE LOURDES LOWDOWN, each
Monday. It is also posted on the school website.
* Graded schoolwork will come home periodically in your child's folder.
* Assignments missed due to absence will come home in an envelope via a
sibling or other designated child. Return the envelope the next day so that
I have it for the next time.
* E-Mail to me should be used only when necessary. I send home a lot of
correspondence and I feel that the web page will help as well. If you have
a concern you should try to reach me by phone. I would much rather talk to
you.
* E-Mail should not be used to report absences, tardiness, change in
transportation or anything that affects your child for that school day. I
do not log in to my E-Mail during the day and I may miss something
important. Please write a note for all of these items. My e-mail address
was given to you at the beginning of the year.
Daily Snack, Zero The Hero, Super Kid, and Birthdays, allergies
*Your child will be bringing a snack each day that there is not a snack
provided, a birthday, or Super Kid snack. A schedule will be provided on
the monthly calendar.
*Snack should be something nutritious. So, I ask that no desert items or
chips of any sort be sent in. If a sandwich is sent in it should be no
more than a half sandwich.
* Please pack all snacks separately from your child's lunch if he/she is
staying all day for Enrichment.
* There is a $54 fee for drinks for the school year. This is payable at the
beginning of the year. Drinks are provided daily.
Your child may have chocolate milk, white, or orange drink.
Zero The Hero
* Every 10th day of school we celebrate "Zero the Hero Day." If your child
is to bring snack it will be written on the calendar. Please make the
treat something in the shape of a zero or loop.
Super Kid
* Your child will have a turn to be Super Kid for a week. They become my
special helper and get to bring in his/her snack of choice one day
(generally Monday), and bring something in the sharing bag to show to
classmates each day.
Birthdays
* Sweet snacks are welcome but not necessary. Please no sheet cakes, or
cupcakes. as
this gets messy. Also, Anything that is easy for the children to handle will
help
things go more smoothly. Possible options are brownies, cookies, candy, and
ice cream bars. 26 treats are adequate. There is no need to bring drinks,
as the children will have a drink from the cafeteria.
* Summer birthdays are celebrated in May oras half birthdays in January and
February. Weekend birthdays will be
celebrated on the Friday before.
* Please limit the birthday celebration to snack only. There should be no
party favors and gift bags. This avoids many problems!
Note:
If you are having a party at home for your child, please mail all party
invitations so that no one's feelings get hurt. I do not allow the children
to pass out invitations at school.
* Presently I know of no food allergies. Please inform me if your child has
one.
Library and Gym
* Your child will have the opportunity to bring home one library book per
week. We will be going to the library on Thursdays. Please have them
return their book by the next scheduled library day so that they can get
another book. It may be brought back earlier as I have a basket in the
classroom to put it in.
Parent Volunteers
* I use volunteers for special projects, parties, field trips, and busy
work. I try to spread out these opportunities to all parents as much as
humanly possible. Notices or a phone call from the room parent or myself
will be sent as needed. I will have a sign up sheet at the Open House in
August.
* The PTA also offers many varied ways to help in the school. It is a great
way to meet others and be of service.
* Help is also needed in to clean tables, be a parent reader, and assist in
the computer lab or help with cutting out activities. Sign up is at the Open
House on Sunday before school
starts or at the parent Open House the first Wednesday after school starts
at 7:00 P.M.
Snow Days
We follow Oak Hills plan when they cancel school or call for a 2-hour
delay. We will have kindergarten and enrichment on days that there is a 2-
hour delay. Children may arrive between 9:45 and 10:00. Children in
kindergarten only will not be counted absent if he/she does not come to
school on a 2 hour delay day.
Allergies Etc
*As far as I know, we do not have any children with nut or other food
allergies. Please let me know if your child has any known food or other
allergies.
