                                 OUR LADY OF LOURDES
                                    KINDERGARTEN

The Our Lady of Lourdes kindergarten program provides a variety of options that are very
favorable to parents’ schedules. Class time has increased to 3.5 hours. The two morning
classes meet from 8:00 a.m.-11:25 a.m. and are taught by two teachers and an aide. We also
offer an afternoon enrichment program.

KINDERGARTEN ENRICHMENT:
* We offer a separate, optional enrichment program to extend the day to a full-day experience.
* The rate is $10 per day and because it is also considered child care, it is tax deductible.
* You may choose the number of days per week that you want your child to participate. (Minimum
of two)
* Curriculum will expand on science and social studies topics as well as other kindergarten
skills. It is, also, another opportunity for social interaction.
* After morning kindergarten is over, the children eat lunch with an aide and then go to
recess with the primary children. Dismissal from this program is at 2:30 p.m.
* This program is taught by Mrs. Barney, who is one of our kindergarten teachers.
* Your child will also be eligible to participate in the Before and After School Program if
desired.

CURRICULUM:
Our well rounded program will prepare your child for a successful first grade experience.
Religion: A variety of methods are used to teach the children about God’s love for all of us
and the meaning of Jesus’ message in our daily lives. We also learn how God comes to us
through our church, school, and family.
Language Arts: The children learn the letters and sounds, as well as blending them to begin
reading and writing words. Children will develop skills of comprehension, printing, and
rhyming etc.
Math: Patterning, sorting, numeric value, addition, subtraction, money, time, and mathematic
logical thinking are just some of the skills learned.
Science and Social Studies: Critical thinking and awareness of the world in which we live is
taught through such topics as senses, creation of the world, animal behavior, health and dental
hygiene, community, plant growth, etc.
Specials: The children participate in weekly gym, music, library, and computer classes.

SPECIAL KINDERGARTEN EVENTS:
* A visit from the fire department provides a lot of excitement!
* The Creation Celebration is the children’s Thanksgiving prayer service that we share with
our families.
* The Thanksgiving Feast is prepared by the children for those who help us during the school
year.
* Dads Day is a special day for your child and his/her special guest. It has a dinosaur theme
with plenty of fun activities.
* Our School Concert will feature our kindergarten children as well as other grades in the
school.
* A field trip to a farm is always a great way to enjoy spring!
* The Mothers Tea is a special time for your child and mom or special guest!
* Let us not forget holiday parties, Trek for Tech, and Bubble/Beach Day!

IMPORTANT DATES:
Registration:
Registration for future kindergarteners traditionally has been held in February. Registration
will require a copy of your child's birth certificate, baptismal record, and his/her social
security number.
Tuition for the 2008-09 school year was $1680. Tuition has not been set for 2009-2010.

Kindergarten Round-up:
We will have our Kindergarten Round-up in April. Please bring your child so
that they can do a couple of activities in the classroom with Mrs. Barney and Mrs. Meyer and
visit both classrooms.
Ms. Rusche, our principal, will take this opportunity to orient parents and answer any
questions that you might have. Our school psychologist, Dr. Joe Vesper, will be on hand as
well.

Kindergarten Screening:
During the day, one day in May, the two kindergarten teachers and our school psychologist
will be assessing your child’s prekindergarten skills. We have found that this helps us get to
know your child’s abilities and needs. We utilize this information to give parents helpful
suggestions to make your child’s start in school successful. You will be asked to sign up for
a time at the Kindergarten Round-up.
