NewsFlash

This weekend marks the start of spring...yahoo! It sure took its time in getting here but we're excited to welcome its arrival just the same.

On Monday morning, the second graders will meet with their big buddies. Together, they will fashion place mats with seasonal decorations. The finished project will be given to a local nursing home for the residents to enjoy. The students of OLL continue to reach out to others.

We are beginning the fifth week of Lent. While we gather in the hall for the all annex prayer time, we will glue on another puzzle piece as we strive to "change our hearts". Patience is the goal for the week. Would that we can all master that one...both young and old. We will discuss taking turns, listening to the opinions of others, allowing everyone to make mistakes and to learn from them, to wait patiently for our classmates and more.

As you know, Fr.Rudy's funeral will take place in our church on Tuesday morning. There will be no school on that day.

On Wednesday, the children will bring home their religion text for your weekly session together. In anticipation of no school on Tuesday, we started this week's First Communion lesson last Friday. So we should be able to maintain our routine. Thus far, I have received three First Communion aisle decorations. Each of them is neatly done and a unique keepsake. Remember not to let them go until the last minute. Also, we will be starting the refrigerator count down sheet this week here at school. You will want to start yours at home as well. (Told you these days would fly.)

On Thursday, Room #7 will have their bread day. Trust me, the children are really looking forward to the experience. Thank you again to our room mothers who organized parents to bring the ingredients and cooking supplies. Karin and Melanie, your contribution has been greatly appreciated.

This time of the school year is always extremely full. These little children are busy experiencing Lent, receiving the sacrament of Reconciliation again, attending the stations, the bread experience and preparing for the reception of their First Communion. You can help me by talking with your children to help them keep all of these things straight as they become stronger in the many aspects of their Catholic faith.

How is the little Lenten box coming? Is it sitting on a counter top where the family is reminded to add change to its contents? Remember pennies add up. The boxes are due back to school the week of Easter.

I will be sending home the next Lucky Book order form on Monday. It will be due back on Friday. There will be four words in cursive on this week's spelling test. Everyone did beautifully on last week's cursive words. The weekly timed math test will be on Wednesday as usual. 100% on the timed math test will result in a "math pass". NO MATH TEST the following week for the recipient of a pass. There's no other way to say it... "NIGHTLY PRACTICE"!!

Report cards will be coming home on Friday. Be sure to sign the slip and return it along with the envelope to school on the following Monday. The report card itself is your to keep.

Last week the children in room #7 brought in their collections to share with their classmates. They all stood straight and tall at our makeshift podium. They delivered their presentations and answered the questions with authority. They did a great job. We really enjoyed the sharing. I think that I have some future antique flea marketers. Perhaps on some of those early mornings, I just may run into some familiar faces on the hunt to add to their collections.

You enjoy the promises of spring and we will too.

Sincerely,

K.B.and Kids
