FEBRUARY NEWS
February is a short month, usually only 28 days, but this year we get a Bonus DAY!! Hurray! It's Leap year, so we get the extra day added to the month of February. This month is filled with many new learning experiences, so we can use the extra day.
We have started off the month with the 100th Day of Kindergarten Celebration! Ask your child all the fun activities we shared on this special "counting" day. Between having 100 snacks and 100 balloons this sure can add to the excitement of the BIG DAY!
Catholic School Week is a very special week at OLL. I enjoyed seeing many of you at our Open House on Sunday. I know the children loved sharing all their special work and beautiful projects in the hallway. The juggler, Mr. Sparough, gave a fun presentation to the school. Ice cream sundaes and sharing doughnuts with our buddies were a delicious way of celebrating.
The big event for the week is the PENNY WAR. Kindergarten is teamed with Grades 2 and 7. Keep saving those pennies and any change (nickels, dimes and quarters) and send in before Friday. The winners will be announced on Friday Feb. 3, and receive a pizza party. All change goes to Children's Hospital-Leukemia Division, so everyon is a winner!
Friday, February 3 - The children will be attending the all school mass to celebrate Catholic School Week. Parents and Grandparents please join us in church at 8:30 to celebrate this special liturgy
Students may wear their Tiger Pride blue shirts over their uniforms on this day. We will also have the Blessing of the Throat, honoring St. Blaise, after Mass.
February 14- Classrom Valentine Party - Watch for special instructions for labeling valentines to be passed out at our party. Students may be out of uniform for this day. Wear your favorite valentine color RED or PINK!
February 15 - Dr. Bill O'Conner, will visit our classroom to teach the students about dental care. Very important lessons will be shared. A special tooth chart will be coming home to track good teeth-brushing skills.
February 20 - No school President's Day.
February 24 - Picture Person Art Program-Mrs. Flohre, our Picture Person Coordinator, will present and demonstrate an art project with the class. This is a great way to introduce art appreciation to the children. Thank you to all who are volunteering with this project.
