Dear Parents,
Conferences are this week, and I look forward to seeing you. I will have a schedule outside the door for your convenience. Conferences are scheduled every ten minutes. Since the conference schedule includes other classrooms and our resource teachers, it is necessary to adhere to your scheduled time. Please help me keep on time by knocking on the door if I am running late.
It has been a real struggle to get the children to put their names on papers. At the beginning of the second quarter, students were told about a new classroom rule. If a paper is turned in without a name, the child has to write his/her first and last name ten times on the ‘line’. I remind the children how important this is every time they get a paper out. Take care, Linda S.
Language Arts
Our new skill this week is learning about the sound of soft ‘c’ and ‘g’ in words like: ice, city, cymbal, giant, and gerbil. We will be reviewing short ‘u’ and continue our list of homonyms.
Our comprehension skill is discussing likenesses and differences in stories. This is also a review. We will be reading “Trucks” and “Communities”. As we discuss these stories, proper nouns and people’s titles will be taught as students learn about various helpers within communities.
Math
Subtraction strategies are being presented and practiced. Students will be introduced to counting back strategies and will use the number line as an aid for subtraction. Please begin the memorization of math facts. Learning the doubles is an easy way to start. Ask your child to sing our math doubles rap. Purchasing math flash cards is a nice stocking stuffer for St. Nick.
Religion
There will be a religion test on Wednesday. It will cover material from Unit 2 of our religion book. The children should do well if they are able to complete Tuesday’s homework without difficulty. Unit Two focused on knowing that Jesus teaches us about God, our loving Father. It also taught the children that God is the creator of everything, and we are called to love Him, others and ourselves.
Social Studies
Discussing the past and learning to read a time line will be taught.
