It's so simple! Here's how it works:
  • SIGN UP at www.scholastic.com/bookclubs. On the parent page, click the Register button in the First Time Here? section. Register for your own user name and password. When prompted, enter the one-time Class Activation Code shown above. This unique code ensures that your order is sent to me.

  • SEND your order to me online by the due date and your child's books will be delivered directly to my classroom.
Ordering online is fast, easy, and secure.

Of course, you can still order using the form from the printed flyer, but it is very convenient to order online.

Thank you! Happy Reading!!

...for the week of January 10th:

Dear Olentangy families,

The National Weather Service is predicting a significant snowfall in our area this week. Please keep in mind that, should this snowfall affect the school schedule, the district WILL NOT be using the automated calling system. The district feels that recent failures have proven this system to be unreliable. The district will continue to notify families of school delays and closures through the district website, listserves and Twitter. The district also notifies local television and radio stations.

If you would like to sign up for one of the district's listserves, please visit http://www.olentangy.k12.oh.us/olists.html.

If you would like to follow the district's updates on Twitter, please visit http://twitter.com/OlentangySD.

Thank you for your patience during this transition period. Stay warm and safe this week!

Well.... here we go!!! The next big step is about to begin - middle school!! In all the busyness of preparation for the future, the memories of the past school year and each and every one of "our" kids floods back: when I wear my favorite bracelet with the saints on it, to my purse with the amazing fabric, when I sling my beach bag over my shoulder, as I water my flowers, or wear my OSU buckeye earrings - plus sooo many more gifts from you that mean so much!! In addition to your generosity, I remember the smiles, the SPIRIT, of each one of your kids. The joy that they brought to me and to each other will never be forgotten!!! THANK YOU for all that you do, for sharing your hearts; I will carry them in mine forever.

With much love,
Mrs. LeMire~

Jump Rope for Heart:

Dear Glen Oak Parents,

It takes heart to be a hero!

Im thrilled that our school is participating in a very special community service program: the American Heart Associations Jump Rope For Heart. ~Our Jump Rope for Heart event starts on Monday! ~Your child(ren) will be jumping rope during their Phys Ed classes next week. ~We will have all types of jump rope stations and other heart healthy activities.

If your family is participating in the fundraising for American Heart Association the packet is due Friday, February 18th. ~

By participating in Jump Rope For Heart, your child will join millions of other children across the country in a meaningful opportunity to learn and help others. They will learn how their hearts work and how to take care of them through physical activity and nutrition. ~And they will learn about children who have been affected by cardiovascular disease and how they can help them. In short, your child will have fun and feel good by helping others.

We are really excited about this years Jump Rope For Heart event and the experience it offers our students. We hope you will support your childs participation in this lifesaving, educational event. To learn more about the American Heart Association, Jump Rope For Heart, how children are affected by heart disease and how to keep your own family healthy, visit american heart.org/jump.

Why is Jump Rope For Heart Important?

1. Heart disease and stroke are America's No. 1 and No. 3 killers and touch all of our lives.

2. More than 9.2 million children and adolescents (ages 6-19) are considered overweight or obese, based on the 95th percentile or higher of body mass index ~~(BMI).

3. Overweight adolescents have a 70 percent chance of becoming overweight adults.

4. Obesity increases a person's risk for heart disease, diabetes, stroke and many other chronic illnesses, and it leads to higher health care costs.

5. Jump Rope for Heart raises funds for research and programs to reduce heart disease, stroke and their risk factors and improve health in people of all ages. ~

Lets help our children be heart heroes!

Sincerely,

Todd Baker & Elissa Griffin

GOES Physical Education Teachers~

Special Notes:

*Your child will receive thank-you gifts based on the donations he or she collects (or you can elect not to receive them.)~

* Outside of the thank-you gifts we have multiple incentives for students at GOES (extra PE classes, IPOD Touch/Pogo Stick/Rocket Blaster Drawings, etc.)

*Our school will also earn free physical education equipment.

*For the safety of our children, we ask that your child not go door-to-door or ask strangers for donations.

February 4
As many as you have already learned, I have been out all week due to an emergency appendectomy - fun stuff!!! No worries, I am on the mend, and I truly thank you all for your thoughts, prayers, and well-wishes!!! Please tell the kids that I miss them, and I hope to be back on Monday! :-D

ALSO - A winter storm watch has been issued for our area beginning the morning of Friday, February 5. According to National Weather Service forecasts, it is possible that weather conditions will be manageable in the morning, but hazardous by Olentangys normally scheduled dismissal times. District officials will monitor conditions closely throughout the day tomorrow, and by 11 a.m., decide if a two-hour early dismissal is necessary. If administrators decide it is safest to dismiss early, parents will be notified as quickly as possible through listserves, phone calls and text messages. Notices of early dismissal will also be posted on the district Web site and sent to all local television and radio stations. Keep close to communications, please be safe, and have a wonderful weekend!

Just one more thing! - GREAT NEWS!!! The generosity and compassion of GOES has shown once again - we have raised over $4000 to go directly to help the people of Haiti!! We sold out of our first batch of HOPE 4 HAITI bracelets and another is on the way... AMAZING!!!

January 15
As our hearts continue to respond to the urgent needs of the Haitian people, we celebrate the compassion and strength of the human spirit. So far, we have raised over $150 that is already on it's way! to help these people who have lost so much. A heartfelt thanks to Ms. Richardson, a first grade teacher at Glen Oak Elementary, who helped us make a difference so quickly. She has been on several mission trips to Haiti and is in direct contact with directors of Sonje Ayiti (http://www.sonjeayiti.com), CSI Ministries (www.csiministries.org), World Vision (www.worldvision.org), and The Red Cross (www.redcross.org). Be sure that our generous donations are in good hands and helping those in their greatest hour of need.

On a happier note, our fifth graders did a FANTASTIC job at last night's musical performance!
Check out these amazing pictures of today's solar eclipse - WOW!!! http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20100115/wl_afp/astronomyeclipsescience
