Mr. Foley will begin his fourteenth year teaching, the last twelve years
being here at Saint Ignatius. He enjoys teaching English, reading, and social
studies to fifth grade students. He graduated from the College of Mount St.
Joseph with a degree in English and education and holds a Masters degree as
a reading specialist from Xavier University. Two years ago Mr. Foley completed
the licensure for special education at Xavier University.
Mr.Foley is a bibliomaniac. His dog is named Scout
after his favorite book. He toyed briefly with the names Eustacia Vye,Anna
Karenina, and Buttercup for his canine, but it was Scout in the end that
really won his heart. Feel free to ask his recommendation for a book or
discussing dogs. He would be pleased as punch to oblige and share.
Mr.Foley and his wife have a toddler boy. That young lad has been the
highlight of Mr.Foley's life, and that is saying a whole lot, considering
has seen Paul McCartney live four times, camped out in a burned-out castle
in Ireland eleven years ago, and ran the Flying Pig Marathon. This kid rocks
his world, as the cool kids would say.
Music is a large part of Mr.Foley's life, too. His favorite record store
in the world is Shake It Records, and he urges you to go there if you love
music and still believe in the power of music. He still buys vinyl and listens to his records on his
Crosley that his wife gave him. Vinyl is still king.
Some miscellaneous debris about Mr. Foley:
His favorite numbers are seven and three.
He enjoys iced coffees and giving pop quizzes when he can.
He dislikes rats, tapioca, and nearly all politicians.
He is considered by many to be the Bob Dylan of Saint Ignatius.
He has zero followers on Twitter, yet he is a fan of Twizzlers.
He listens to vinyl records more than anyone else you know .
He is President and Founder of The Covedale Comma Preservation Society.
My mission for the class is to have students actively engaged in
reading, writing, speaking, and listening on a daily basis. With a
philosophy that all students can learn, I encourage students to challenge
themselves, to think critically and creatively, and to be able to decode
meaning from text. To become strong, lifelong readers and competent writers
are two of my main goals in the class. I encourage students to find the
message of Jesus every day.
