Writing/English

Writing/English will be made up of several different components this year. One of these components is a new vocabulary program that called Wordly Wise which we will use every other week. All of the assignments and tests from this program will be worth 25% of their writing grade.
On Monday we will introduce the words for that particular unit through a power point. All of the words will also be in their student workbook. They will have the Finding Meanings assignment in the workbook that first night.
On Tuesday we will assign the Just The Right Word assignment in the workbook.
On Wednesday we will assign the Applied Meanings and Word Study assignments in the workbook.
On Thursday we will assign the Passage in the workbook.
On Friday we will have a vocabulary test.
We will be doing other activities with these vocabulary words throughout the week, and collecting certain workbook assignments to grade.
On the weeks we are not doing the vocabulary we will be doing spelling using the Rebecca Sitton Spelling Program. Assignments and tests from this program will also be worth 25% of their writing grade.
We will give a list of core words on Monday that will be tested on Friday. These core words are from the list of the 1,200 most frequently words used in writing. We will be doing many activities with these words and developing concepts and skills throughout the week.
The other 50% of the grade will come from their writing assignments and English text book assignments and tests.
