Communication about Upcoming Assignments and Tests

Parents and students,                                             January 31, 2012

Health:   We are now starting Chapter 2 on Personal Health-skin, teeth, vision, and hearing.  The students will be presenting an advertisement for their new product.  This product will be a personal health product  for teeth, skin, etc.   We will discuss the different tricks used in advertising.  The classmates will be choosing the best products while being aware of any tricks by the advertiser.  The students can make a powerpoint, a poster , a video commercial with a demonstration about their product. They can put the video on a disc to be view in the classroom. The billboard should be on a poster board if they choose this one.  The magazine article should be on a typing size piece of paper with lots  of color.   The students have a paper with details.  Some have not started yet!   

Social Studies: We are moving on to our Regions book.  We will begin in the Northeast and move across the U.S. to the Western states.   The students will be picking a state to do a state project on for Grandparents' Day.  This has been well received and the grandparents love seeing actual work done by the students.  They learn from the students, and the grandparents share their experiences with the students.  More information will be coming about this soon. The student may choose their state, but we want everyone to be doing a different one. (No one gets Ohio.)  
 

Reading:    AR Reading Competition between 4th grade girls and boys-  the boys are winning almost 2 to 1.   Reading /Vocab test is on Friday.

English Grammar and Writing:  We have begun working on possessive pronouns, and we are writing comparison about Stone Fox, the book and the movie.  Spelling test is on Friday.

Religion:   We are reading Chapter 5 about Jesus' Ascension and the Paschal Mystery.  Chapter 6 is about Baptism and then we will begin a chapter on the Beatitudes.
