Parent/Teacher Conferences
Thanks to all those who attended their child's conference. It is always nice
to meet with parents to discuss their child's progress. Please contact me,
if you need to reschedule.

HOMEWORK: First Graders need an adult each day to review their homework for
errors. Remember, homework should be completed in pencil and completed
neatly. Please look in your child's assignment notebook each night for
assignments.

Spelling: Most students are doing really well on their spelling test. If
your child is struggling, please help them look for ways that the words are
similar. Example: bag~tag (Both end with -ag).

Language: We have been reading poems, stories and books about Thanksgiving.
We have also written sentences about turkeys.

Math: We have been working on adding, patterns, money and graphing. We have
started on subtraction. The students made patterns using Pilgrims and
Indians. They are on display in our hallway.

Reading: Reading Groups are going well. We will have a reading test each
Friday. The area that most students need help with is comprehension.
Parents can help by asking questions about stories that they have read
together at home.

Handwriting: We continue to work on lower case letters. We know
that some letters are tall, some are small and some fall below the line.
PARENT: IF YOU NOTICE THAT YOUR CHILD IS MAKING THEIR LETTERS FROM THE BOTTOM
AND THEN GOING UP, PLEASE STOP THEM AND HAVE THEM WRITE IT FROM TOP TO BOTTOM.

REMINDER: STUDENT'S MUST WEAR A P.E. UNIFORM TO PARTICIPATE IN P.E. CLASS.
THEY NEED A P.E. T-SHIRT AND P.E. SHORTS AS WELL AS GYM SHOES.

P.E. Classes are on Wednesdays and Fridays. Remember to pack your P.E.
