Shapes in the World
Use Link 1 below to find the information on your homeroom saints. I'll leave
this up for a few more days in case you didn't get to finish.
Moving on. . .
Shapes in the World
The purpose of this project is to teach you to use PowerPoint and to help
make you aware of the use of shape in our world. You will have three weeks
for this project.
The first day of class, we’ll spend some time becoming familiar with
PowerPoint. Yay.
Then, you’ll get to work on your project. You should complete all the work
FIRST and then add things like background color or slide design. We’ll talk
about animations down the road—maybe even in another project.
You will be using the internet and clip art to find pictures of things in the
world that contain that shape. Try to be creative. In other words, we all
know that a soccer ball and a baseball and a golf ball are all spheres. Try
to think “outside the box” to find different things that are that shape. Try
to find THREE items for each shape.
Be sure to copy and paste the URL for any websites you use onto the slide. If
you use ClipArt from Microsoft, there's no need for a URL because I'll know
the source!
Try to limit yourself to using one picture per website. Use the websites
below to get you started, but then feel free do Google. Some things to think
about. . .
Architecture
Signs
Fashion
Logos
Start simple—circle, square, rectangle, triangle. You are welcome to venture
into more interesting and complicated shapes if you wish. There’s a link
below to help you. You will be finding 3 examples of each of three shapes.
Slide 1: Title, Name, HR
Slide 2: Pick a shape. Put a simple picture of that shape and its name on
this slide
Slide 3: Choose one of the items you found that contain that shape. Put its
picture here and if it’s a building in a city, list the name of the building
and the city
Slide 4: Shape one, example 2
Slide 5: Shape one, example 3.
Slide 6: Shape two, example 1
Slide 7: Shape two, example 2
Slide 8: Shape two, example 3
Slide 9: Shape three, example 1
Slide 10: Shape three, example 2
Slide 11: Shape three, example 3
If you finish early, you may
a. Add more examples to any of your shape categories
b. Add another shape and find examples. Shoot for something more daring. ..

The fifth graders are involved in an on-going biography project
titled "Eleven People I'd Like to Meet". This cross-curricular
project will last until the Spring, we'll work on it sporadically
in the Lab, and it's pretty fun! Ask your fifth grader about it!
