The Giver ---Communal Living Project
As always, apply and transfer all knowledge you have learned in ALL subject areas throughout this learning process.
What is a commune? Why is this important to know? How is knowing this information important to/relevant to your life?
Students will work in teams for this project.In the spirit of inclusion and fairness, teams will be determined by picking a number from a hat.Students will create a 3 dimensional communal society. These 3-dimensional displays MAY NOT be larger than 24" X 24".Along with the display, teams will create EITHER a PowerPoint presentation, a Publisher brochure, a Publisher newspaper, OR a book for the oral presentation. Students may draw pictures and present the project via pictures in the oral presentation.
Questions Teams should ask themselves while creating their communities:
What is the System you have set up? Describe:Your system of laws, rules, and punishmentsYour system of how people are educatedYour system for finding and choosing leadersYour system for how your government worksYour social system and how people raise families, find employment
These things will be the biggest part of your presentation, but you may also think about music, currency, sports, publications, and anything else we discussed in class or your group has decided to include.

Project Grade: Student will earn a grade in Language Arts for this project* 1/3 -- using time well in LA and computer classes when it is given to you* 1/3 -- thoughtfulness and seriousness of your ideas (Completeness and Accuracy)* 1/3 -- creativity, neatness, and correctness in LA presentation (mechanics, appearance, use of language) -- This includes your speaking style during the oral presentation
Rubric:
* Description of laws, education, government, family, employment, etc. (music, currency, publications, religion, etc.)* Report of your REAL communal society* Comparison of your society with The Giver's society* Use of Time* Creativity, Neatness, Correct Usage of Language* Visuals* Presentation
