Science Diorama

January 4, 2012

Dear Second Grade Parents,

Each child is asked to do a diorama book report using a science non-fiction
book. When your child reads the book he/she is asked to choose some
interesting facts or information learned from the book and display this in
the diorama.

Mrs. Knollman will have a collection of non-fiction science books available
for the children in our school library. Your child may also choose one from
the Public Library or a book he/she may have.

The diorama is due back to class by Thursday, January 26. They will be
displayed at Open House for Catholic Schools Week on January 29.

Directions for Diorama

1.	Your shoebox should be covered on the outside – either painted or
wrapped with paper. You may want to make it part of the scene.
2.	Choose your interesting facts or information from the book and
reproduce it in 3-D form in your shoebox.
3.	It must be colorful and neatly done. You may suspend things, or
stand them up. You may use clay, play dough, Lego’s, wooden objects, paper
cut outs, etc. Be creative, use your “Productive Thinking” and let your
imagination go
4.	On an index card, put the title of your book, author, and your name.
Also write a couple of full sentences to tell what happens in the scene you
have created in the diorama.
5.	You may bring the book on the due date to display with your diorama
if you would like.

You will be graded on creativity, neatness, spelling, and punctuation.
Remember to do careful, neat work.

                                                     HAVE FUN!
