Weekly Objectives/Targets: Feb 27-March 2, 2012
Math
-students will review liquid, weight, and length measurements for both U.S. Standard and the Metric System and create benchmarks for each; discuss and determine when estimates/exact measures are necessary
Spelling
- spell all words accurately
Science
-
focus this quarter is on ENERGY - we will start with thermal energy, then electrical, light, and sound energy
students will model the increase in thermal energy with atoms by role playing that movement, and discovering with much movement, atoms are much further apart, and that when their speed increases, temperature increases... through this they discover that thermal energy is the energy of moving particles and that temperature is the measure of that energy
after this, students will have the chance to make their own discoveries of electric circuits using a D battery, wire, and flashlight bulb; we will take this more in depth as they create series and parallel circuits using more components - going to be an exciting time in Science!!!
Reading
- students will make predictions, ask questions, and find figurative language throughout the text, giving the literal meaning and deciding why the author used this to develop the plot and why the author uses certain words to convey a feeling or mood within the chapter; students will become familiar with vocabulary used during the World War II era, also historical events from this era will be discussed as we read the novel, Number the Stars
