If your child would like to bring in any pictures of family or objects that they love please do so sometime next week. Keep in mind these items will be glued to our heart maps. Magazine clipping are fine too.
Working with Words
Our word wall words this week are: been, my, than, eat, & girl. Our bonus word is February.
We will learn the “oo” and “ui” hunk and chunk next week.
Guided Reading
Next week we will begin reading different versions of the five little monkeys. We will read the original version focusing on text to self and story recall. Then we will read the “hide-and-seek” version. We will relate this text to self through a writing activity. On Wednesday we will read the “birthday cake” version. We will sequence this story. On Thursday we will take a break from the monkeys and celebrate Groundhog’s Day. Finally we will end the week with the monkeys going shopping. We will relate this text to our self as we write about where we like to shop.
Of course we couldn’t do a unit about monkeys and not learn a little about them. We will also be creating a schema chart and reading several non-fiction books on Monkeys. We will watch a few short clips and even learn a little about Jane Goodall. We will be monkey experts by Friday!
Writing
We will be creating our own Five Little Monkey stories this week. We will write about babysitting a monkey. We will also create our own version of the five little monkeys. Finally we will end the week by making an acrostic poem about monkeys.
In addition we will begin to work on our heart maps. This will allow us to be creative and share all of the things that we love and hold dear to our hearts.
Daily 5
We have been working in small group reading club. If your child brings a book home with completed worksheets, that means their group has successful read and completed the text. The will begin working on a new text in class.
Math
Next week we will focus on adding sums using our doubles, +1, and +2 rule. We will also focus on the 10 sums rule.
